If any vehicle worth owning was being manufactured, I would buy a new one.

But, you can't even get a rear wheel drive Cadillac sedan with a V8 engine, anymore. And, even if you could, they still look like cheap plastic junk, and the seats may well be made from bricks and plywood; that's what they feel like.

Even trucks look cheap and plastic.

I don't think that they have made any vehicle worth owning in 2 decades, at least.

If they want to sell cars, they should study the original Volkswagen Beetle. There was a reason that thing was so popular; it was reliable, economical, inexpensive, and easy to work on. Shoot, they had a repair manual for it that was put together with the stoned hippy in mind.

Here's our "recovery" in action. We have to keep making cars because so many jobs rely on the auto industry, but what happens if no one has the money to buy them? I bought my 2yr old SUV in 2008 before the bottom dropped out. It was $15k and only had 15k miles on it. Now that it's pushing 217k miles my wife and I are thinking about a replacement vehicle in the next year or so but the used car market is so dry because everyone else is hanging onto their vehicles too. A comparable vehicle would either cost me $5k more to purchase this time around or if I had to stay in my $15k budget I'd end up with a vehicle with 70k miles on it instead of 15k miles. Yikes.

I got great value from beaters.

I used to buy $500 cars, drive them until they died, and get another one. They normally lasted more than a year.

Beats a $200 a month payment.

Been driving my 2002 Ford Explorer since 2004. Paid it off long ago. Getting ready to turn over 280,000. Engine runs like a scalded dog. I'll put a Jasper tranny and transfer case in it this year and drive the dang thing until the wheels fall off.

Next vehicle on my list is an 1957 Ford pickup that I can restore and drive until I die.

Koons Tysons in Vienna VA, just that dealership not all their stores, can do over 800 cars in a month. Some of their cars come from the MD dock.
Think about this. The ave age of a car on the road is 11+ years old. If the ave miles per year is 12-15K most of the cars on the road have over 100K miles on them.
I bet most of those cars disappear as sold.

Sheerness is the UK's largest port for importing cars. They're as "unsold" as a few tons of grain in a silo; they're being stored awaiting purchase.

This article is nonsense.

i knew some of those pics looked familiar. i remember reading back in 08-09 about cars being stored on test tracks. but obviously that was 5+ years ago. things have changed since then, and the entire article is wrong.

What drives me nuts is that people write up news without checking facts any more. It's no wonder we need snopes and other sites.

New cars for the most part cost right around what a 1-2 year old used one will. I purchased my Mustang back in September for $6600 under sticker, now many are $8,000-$10000 under sticker. I did the same when I purchased my 4X4 back in 2011, got it for $6500 under sticker. New car sales are robust.

It's interesting that you say that Scott. Now that I think about it, GF's mama just bought a new Chevy because it was cheaper than getting a similar type used vehicle.

My father recently purchased a brand new Ford; he got a pretty good deal on it. Matter of fact, he drove off without leaving any sort of down payment at all, the dealer never spoke with Daddy's bank... the only security my fatherleft was a pphotocopy of his Credit Uniongguy's business card.

Not sure that this speaks to robust car sales, though. This makes it seem as if dealers are desperate for sales.

I recently bought a Ford FX4 F150. After incentives, financing, etc. brother-in-law's employee family discount, the 2014 was only a couple of hundred more expensive than the 2013s they wanted to clear out. Slap the trade-in incentive and bam, lower. So the last year of the current model, which means all the bugs are worked out, more value down the road, less money.

I love my truck.
