PA no longer honoring Utah permits?
PA no longer honoring Utah permits?
Apparently, Pennsylvania has dumped Utah and will no longer honor their concealed carry permits. Lots of internet buzz about this on gun related sites - just Google it up.

Hmm. Very interesting. I'm not sure what to make of that.

Re: PA no longer honoring Utah permits?
PA has an anti-gun State AG. Utah had no written reciprocity agreement with PA. The PA State AG simply removed Utah from the states it honors.
Folks in may-issue states such as MD and NJ who found it nearly impossible to get a permit from their own state often got a Utah permit to carry in PA. They are probably most affected among those put out by this.

On the up-side, PA is a Right to Carry state. As long as you OC, you're fine anyway.

Got to be careful here as vehicle transport is still very limited without a permit.MarcSpaz wrote:On the up-side, PA is a Right to Carry state. As long as you OC, you're fine anyway.

True... I only glazed over the non-permit stuff since I am permitted, but I recall glove box, console or "cased and unloaded".
I go to PA often and spent a good amount of time researching their code as well as speaking to their LEO's. Their laws are very, very similar to ours. They may even be considered a bit more relaxed. In VA, we have two full-auto fire shotguns that are not legal to own or transport for any reason, which both are legal in PA. Also, in VA there is a mag cap limit if you don't have a CHP while carrying some weapon types; mostly location orientated. In PA there is no mag cap limit regardless of location, weapon type or carry status. Outside of those two, I don't believe there is much difference.

Re: PA no longer honoring Utah permits?
Last I looked into applicable PA law, I recall, specifically, a requirement for a permit to open carry. This was about 2 years ago. I had occasion to shoot up into PA long enough to drop someone off, just over the border.

PA law prohibits carrying a loaded gun, either open or concealed, in a vehicle without a permit.MarcSpaz wrote:True... I only glazed over the non-permit stuff since I am permitted, but I recall glove box, console or "cased and unloaded".

When NM's AG pulled a similar stunt, the complaint cards and letters flew in mass to the governor and state legislators. NM's reciprocity quickly returned to what it had been. Wonder if this could happen in PA?ProShooter wrote:Pa. is foolish to do this.....but no one ever said that politicians were smart.
