All purpose shotgun opinions

Post by Mindflayer »

I have a Nova Tactical. Great gun, but no choke. I'm looking for a shotgun that fits the other role besides tactical - hunting (turkey and deer, I'm thinking) and clays; maybe some grouse. Not sure I'll do wetlands.
What are your thoughts? Budget is pretty solid on this - wife and I both want it so it's a determined effort. :) I do realize LOP may require two different guns.

How about a Remington 870 Express Combo package?

Another vote for the 870. Hard to go wrong with it, could buy an extra butt stock for her if need be. Remchoke will allow you to buy chokes to feel all your needs.

870 is a sure thing. I also think the Mossberg 500 deserves an honorable mention; models can be gotten cheap and you can change a lot in a single gun between flex, barrels, and chokes.

your best bet is to get a combo package (870 or 500) that has multiple barrels. You can't go wrong with either a Mossy or Remington. For an adjustable LOP, you could invest in an adjustable stock. Just be careful because many aftermarket adjustable stocks (like the Blackhawk Knoxx stock) change the angle of the check weld (which can be overcome with stock spacers).

btw, what is your budget? I've had my Benelli Montefeltro for many years and I love it as an all purpose semi-auto.

I've always planned on getting an 870, but my Winchester 1300, 12 gauge has never failed me..It was my first shotgun, and I've used it for hunting and self defense...As a noob 15 years ago, I let it fall into the mud and foolish didn't clean it for 5 months and it still works fantastic..Great for trap shooting and taking care of varmint squirrels...

Great thoughts, everyone!

The problem is I let myself shoulder and handle a Benelli Ethos. Holy cow...

The Ethos is SO SWEET! I know I mentioned it before, but seriously check out the montefeltro. Not as expensive, and still super smooth.
