Anyone have a .308/7.62 NATO SBR or Pistol?

Post by MarcSpaz »

Does anyone have a .308/7.62 NATO SBR or pistol? I am seriously thinking about ordering a Sig R716 12" B-CQB SBR on Friday for "home defense". I would love to hear feedback from anyone who owns something like it.

http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductD ... 2-sbr.aspx

It weighs about 1 lbs more than my civilian M4 with a 16" barrel, but 4 inches shorter. So, I am guessing it is very maneuverable indoors. I am a bit concerned about spending the money, because once I put a can on it to protect my ears, it my be too heavy and too long... leading me to stick to my M4.

Any feedback from owners?

have an 8" and a 12" 308.

The 8" I refer to as shock and awe. It sucks on an indoor range, with hearing protection for everyone on that side of the range. People usually pack up and leave when I shoot it. I've stopped shooting it on indoor ranges.

The only way I'd willingly fire it indoors w/o hearing protection is if I could jam it 2" inside the bad guy before pulling the trigger. I am ___CERTIAN__ that it would produce permanent hearing loss from a single shot. The flash even on a well lit range leaves you with spots before your eyes.

The 12" sucks less, but still isn't something I'd want to touch off inside my house.

Also most of the expanding rounds won't at 8-12" muzzle velocities, so you've lost nearly all the upside of the bigger projectile, and now have a great household barrier penetrator.

If you want a short compact firearm for home defense get a pistol. Long arms inside the confined space of residences are suboptimal.
SBR, supressor, for home defense...

Maybe a 300blk upper SBR with subsonic loads?

I agree with the pistol though. For me...a revolver. When my fine motorskills go south due to aadrenaline, I just want to worry about one thing.

JD, man, I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. Thank you Sir. I appreciate it.

Yea, I kinda suck with a pistol... not horrible, but I like my chances better with a rifle. That's why I was thinking of that type of weapon.

Bryan, good suggestion on the 300 blk. Works very nicely from a 8" bbl, add a can, and you are still under the size/weight for a 16" 5.56 carbine.

I've never fired a 300 blackout. If both of you think that would be a better way to go, I'll do some research on them and see what I can find.

This is good info. Thanks guys.

Marc, Brotha, Might I suggest a Remington 870 with an 18" bbl, extended mag, and pistol grip?

You touch off one of those? They stop coming into the house. Plus? You can get rounds that make their day "different".

If you're sold on an SBR? Try getting a Draco in 7.62x39, and go to USMACHINEGUN.COM.... I can speak upon those lil' pistols converted into SBR's... they will just plain do anything you want them to do... Seriously. And you don't go AS deaf!

Thanks Rev! Sounds like the 870 might be something to look at regardless, but narrow halls and stairways in homes don't lend well to longer weapons when it comes to tight corners or spinning around quickly without lifting or lowering the weapon.

I'll check out that link too. I love toys. But if the misses tosses me out, I'm going to need a place to crash for a few days. LoL

Been wanting to add one of these to the homedefense arsenal...Seems like a great tool, if & or a pistol isn't your weapon of choice for such...

Yep! I call those shotguns "Mouse-Guns" because just like a computer mouse? You point, and "Click".

They traverse about as well as a SBR, and when you rack that slide after the first shot... that's the international language of "Something Louds About Ready to Happen".

With the lack of after work daylight, I think is going to have to be a weekend operation. If we can make arrangements to use your outdoor facility, that would be nice. The quiet of cans is spoiled on an indoor range with other non-quiet users.

Sunday the 16th, weekend of the 22-23rd are all open right now.

Most definitely. During the winter months, I can only use the site on Saturday from noon until about 30 minutes before sunset (about 1720 this week).

Let me know what day works for you.
