I might be the only person who didn't know this.
Some people are mad because Dr. Cynthia Romero was not reappointed Commissioner of Health of Virginia. Dr. Romero was presumably put in to enforce the new rules to require that the abortion clinics conform to hospital standards when her predecessor who disapproved of the new standards left the Agency. So maybe we shouldn't be surprised that Gov. McAuliffe declined to reappoint Dr. Romero.
Dr. Marissa Levine, who was Chief Deputy Commissioner of Health was instead appointed by our new Governor. But there was a surprise (at least for me) hidden in the Governor's choice of Commissioners. I Don’t know how Dr. Levine stands on Abortion regulations, but a good friend who is retired from the Department told me that 4-5 years ago, Dr. Marissa Levine was Dr. MARK Levine. I have no reason to think my friend was lying or mistaken.
Ain't it odd; the things that don't make the news?

A quick Google search (Mark Marissa Levine) turns up listings for both Dr. Mark Janae Levine and Marissa Janae Levine, practicing in Richmond.
Interesting.

Even if the person changed genders, why do you care?

http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/state ... f6878.htmlLevine, who has been serving as a deputy commissioner, will lead the Virginia Department of Health, a vast agency with reach across the state.
Before taking a job with the state, she served as Henrico County’s health director and was known as Dr. Mark Levine. She declined to comment on her appointment and its significance.

Why do we care about the changes of Dr. Levine?
Well, It's always good to know things about public servants, especially when they hold important posts. Some light research on Marissa Levine may not turn up that his name used to be Mark.
Also, such things may be viewed as red flags to some folks. Folks that are confused about their gender have always struck me as somewhat wishy washy.

I second that. Being old with ample ailments, I have lots of doctors; both male and female and I'm glad that they all seem to be sure they are, and will remain, male or female as the case may be. Don't need no wishy washy folks putting fingers and various instruments into various body orifices. A fella, or a gal, needs to be sure of who is putting what into them openings or creating new openings.SHMIV wrote: "Also, such things may be viewed as red flags to some folks. I Love This Country! It's The Government That Scares The Hell Outta Me!
Re: I might be the only person who didn't know this.
Well, I do believe this is my queue.
Its not good for a man to think about this stuff too often, and its beginning to become unavoidable, everywhere. Our mind is collectively in the gutter. These things seems to be all there is on the radio, tv, in the movies, newspapers, internet. If it isnt violence or greed, its porn and perversion, to fear and hate. The soul of this country is being eaten alive.
Philippians 4:8 tells us....
8 "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. "
Before I get caught up in whats coming, I think I'll just be hitching my wagon on up and moving on down the road. See yall later.
Romans 1
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,
30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;
32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

As a matter of fact, I didn't say I cared. I said I was surprised. But I'd be bound to agree with what some others have said here: I'm not altogether sure it is prudent to have someone making healthcare policy decisions for the Commonwealth (particularly at such a tumultuous point in healthcare) by someone who isn't sure what gender they want to be/are. It seems to me to bespeak some confusion and indecision that may not reflect well on their stability and decision-making ability and suggests an ideology inconsistent with mine.

I think it is good to know the perspective of those who might be giving others advice. If I was going to get my gun tuned up and and the technician hated Glocks....but loved Sigs and I have a glock...perhaps I should find another person to give me advice. Anyway.
Other than that....it is their life.

You either think it not to be possible to comment on a thing without "caring" or you just refuse to concede that I said what I said truthfully. Today I talked about the Super Bowl, and I sure didn't give a tinker's damn about that. And for that matter, I'm posting in reply to what you said, and truth to tell, I don't give a rat's ass about that either. See how little care a post requires?

It is possible to post a thread on a topic, not because you have any interest, but because you know other folks may be interested in the topic. That sort of thing generates discussion.
It's actually possible to hold an opinion on a topic, too, without having to care about it.
