Gaining Steam?

Nearly 100 Lawmakers Descend on Mount Vernon to Talk Convention of States

Close to 100 legislators from 32 states met in Mount Vernon, Va., Saturday to discuss the possibility of adding amendments to the U.S. Constitution through a convention of the states.

Two-thirds of the state legislatures, or 34, must approve an application for a convention to occur, according to the Constitution’s article five. State legislatures would then send delegates to the convention, each state getting one vote on proposed amendments. For an amendment to pass and become a part of the Constitution, it would have to be approved by three-fourths, or 38, of the state legislatures.

Just makes me nervous. I really don't think we need a new system really. We need the old system done right without all the nonsense.

The first amendment religion clause is very clear...."Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" Congress cannot make a state religion, neither can they prohibit the free exercise of a person's faith. However during this time of year we see even the word "Christmas" being scrubbed from our society in the name of this amendment. Doing precisely the opposite.

We give them more laws...they will find a way to twist them to their own purpose.

Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps others could speak to this fear I have.

The old system is dead and gone. Hopefully the new system will be based on the old system.

By declaring it's death, are you ready to turn in your guns because I am afraid that the statist will use this to do just that. We are holding onto a very few freedoms only because we refuse to acknowledge the overthrow of our system of gov't. Right now the Marxists have to give lip service to it. If we change it and agree with them it that it is dead, they can and will take advantage of every turn.

It is NOT liberals and progressives calling for the convention to propose amendments. The representatives will be chosen by the States legislatures who are right now majoriy red.

Term limits and restraining the federal bureaucracy are essential and will never happen in the current political environment. They will not fix themselves...

The Constitution isn't being trashed as it has been in the courts by progressives for the past 100 years.

It is being shored up because it is necissary to do so because of the relentless and brutal attack by progressives.

Chances of a "runaway convention" in which the progressive have their way with the Constitution are nearly nill due to the make up of State legislatures...even those like Virginia in which progressivees gained a temporary foot hold in the State house. Virginia was first, to pre file!!!!!

Just by this happening, it should send a message. Probably will be ignored by the Federal gov't, though.

"The Framers anticipated this day might arrive, for they knew that republics detiorate at first from within. They provided a laweful and civil way to repair what had transpired. We the people, through our state legislatures-and the state legislatures acting collectively-have enormous power to constrain the federal government, reestablish self-government, and secure individual sovereignty."

This wouldn't be a new system. It is a part of the existing system. This was put in so that the states could check an unresponsive or rampant federal government.

So after reading the Instapundit note about the Kos kids' reaction to the convention (here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/0 ... 3-Assembly# ), I posted a couple of polite replies to some of their nastier comments. Do you know that they delete any comments that don't parrot their party line? Both were deleted within an hour.

This brings a number of thoughts to mind:

1. They can't take it, shouldn't dish it out;
2. They know that their worldview is corrupt and dishonest, but can't face the fact because it would demolish their entire sense of identity;
3. None of them is more than fifteen years old;
4. How the hell do they manage to win so many elections?

The article in the link and the resolution pictured don't specify exactly what they would be seeking to do.

It will serve one purpose. If the federal government ignores it, there's certainly grounds for dissolving the federal government.
