Tea Party Allies with Democrat, Takes on Atlanta Braves

Post by Kreutz »

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2 ... raves.html
When the Atlanta Braves became the latest Major League Baseball franchise to demand a new stadium to play in, they ran into a huge tide of opposition to their move from downtown Atlanta to the suburbs north of the city.

But instead of protests from fans in their current home downtown, the team has gotten an earful from furious Tea Party activists in Cobb County, the Republican-dominated portion of the metro area that was once the heart of Newt Gingrich’s congressional district and will now be home to the 60-acre site the team has chosen for its new stadium.

The Tea Party anger is focused on the county’s usually small-government, anti-tax Republican board of commissioners, which enticed the baseball team with a commitment of $300 million in public funds to go toward a new $672 million stadium for the ball club. But while the county commission called the stadium deal a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the local Tea Party activists called foul, accusing the commission of rushing to a vote without enough public review and opening up the latest front in the war between Tea Party groups and the Republican establishment that pushed for the deal.

“I’ve had several members of the Chamber of Commerce tell me that the Tea Party needs to stick to federal issues and leave local issues like this alone,” said Debbie Dooley, the head of the Atlanta Tea Party. “Well, that’s not going to happen.

“What was unique about tonight was that the lone Democrat on the Cobb County Commission voted against a tax increase and voted for transparency and openness to allow more time for study, while the four Republicans voted for a tax increase and denied the people a chance to study it.” She said, calling the agreement with the Braves a sweetheart deal for the team that was forged behind closed doors by the area’s “good ole boy network,” including the powerful Chamber of Commerce.

At this point, going against the tea certainly is an indication you are wrong

The Rs are going to regret their war against the tea party

Isn't it more like respect for the lone Democrat +9000 for not going blindly in favor of big government?

The GOP and Democrats are one party now, so it's no surprise that people are looking for a group that represents what they believe in.

It's not about Democrats or liberals or whatever is the latest boogie man. It's about stopping progressivism before it destroys the last free country on earth.

I'll gladly fight next to Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, liberals or even the damn Shriners if they are for liberty and small government. The Tea Party is the only group willing to take such a stand. And I don't remember anyone being asked to swear allegiance to a particular party to join either.

A hearty amen to all of the above.

I'm really hoping it selltes into the real issues;

(Them) big government anti-constitution anti-freedom ruling class of progressive faculty lounge lizzards against
(us) Freedom loving Americans who realize that the framers instituted limits on the federal government for such a time as this. That the size of government is inversely proportional to freedom. We are capable of addressing most issues of governance locally and on a State wide basis rather than being ruled by a fedaral overlord.

Probably should have worded it better, but yes.

My largest gripe with the TP up until really rather recently was my perception they were just an arm of the GOP which seemed (to me anyway) justified in 2010-2012, but not so much at all nowadays.

The TP began under Bush protesting the bail outs. Wanna find out about them? Go to a meeting. It becomes obvious. They'll back anyone who understands the Constitution and agrees to do public service under the Constitution for the republic as a public servant of the citizens.

Simple as that.

While my sympathy for them has grown I gotta be honest and say I view their chance of success against their freakishly formidable adversaries about as equal as putting out a raging inferno with a squirt gun.

IMO better to just grab whatever valuables you can, retreat to a safe distance, and just wait for the damned thing to burn itself out.

They've already had success far beyond all reasonable expectations and represent one of the few rays of hope fpr patriots in the current political universe.

Always remember our freedom was originally a long shot beyond resonable expectation.

Not sure how you define success, but the debt gets bigger and civil liberties fewer and this shows no signs of abating.

Ever.

It's not really applicable to today. Different people, different time, different circumstances.

Oh I forgot ....the viewpoint....

There is no hope, all is lost, our children are forever condemned etc.

Why don't you just turn your guns now? Avoid the rush.

Indeed. In fact children are "in the system" within minutes of being born save a log cabin birth.

Some I paid cash for in private sales...those I'd stash away for a rainy day.

The others, you're damned right I'd turn them in if I couldn't sell them first. No way in hell am I going up against several people with better guns.

Better a living coward that a brave corpse I always say.

Just the way it is for me. :coffee:

Indeed they do. I'm in no particular rush to join them.

In any event the best the TP or other like minded folks can do is hold the line for a little while longer.

The takers are just too numerous, sorry. It's just the way it is.

To use your own prior example of the the American revolution; no way in hell it would have succeeded if a majority of colonists were getting free food and money from the Crown, no way.

And thats the way it is today and thats what you're really up against, not "the liberals", but the very society you need to effect change in order to save it. The entitlement mentality is the new unifying American ethos.

Good luck challenging that.

Speak for yourself.

Frankly, I never thought I would see the age of 19 in Southeast Asia 1970. Everything since then's been a bonus.

Don't you think a suitable parallel these days would be those with a backbone against the overlords and the takers? As such I can't see myself on the wrong side.

I'm fighting here for the next 3 years, volunteering, knocking on doors, and driving folks to the polls as I have been for 20+ years. What are you doing besides grumbeling on line?

I'll continue being politically active in Texas where I was born and raised...

The last election just helped me make up my mind.

Ever consider moving back to NY and disparaging the population there?

Nothing can be done to stop what is coming, sad to say. Its already happened after all. If voting could change anything it'd be illegal after all.

As for going back to NY a visit every two years is enough for me.
