Gun control in Virginia

McAuliffe Already Making Moves on Gun Control in Virginia

Terry McAuliffe won't take his place as the Governor of Virginia until January, but he isn't wasting any time when it comes to getting ahead on his anti-gun agenda. During the campaign, McAuliffe advocated for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and standard capacity magazines. Now, he's hired Lori Haas, the Virginia State Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence [CSGV]

Did we not see this coming? He told us this is what he wanted to do yet some acted like a child having a temper tantrum and if they didn't get everything they wanted they thew away their votes.
Democrats took most high profile positions and it looks like Obenshain is behind by a few hundred votes and I'm sure when they recount the numbers will be worse.

All we can do is call and write your local reps and tell them to hold the line. If we lose the State Assembly it's over.

I know, but the immediacy of it just makes me realize there is going to be no break for the weary. I went from writing and calling and faxing the fed govt, to now doing the same at he state. Yes, i did the state this past year, but not the ferverent pace at which i will now have to do it.

Really, other states are looking good these days.

We've been through this before and have persevered. We must be tenacious and stand together (e.g. VCDL).

Gene: with only one house on our side? I cannot afford to give up, but I tell you I am scared this time.

How stong is our house? Strong enoguh? I think probably, but look at how party line the Ds were on the federal level, and the Rs that gave in. Its just scarey how they really dont care about us all now.

Sure, it's concerning. I'm not trying to suggest otherwise. The cancer is trying to spread and some feel running away is a solution. I am not convinced the grass is greener elsewhere, and in fact, it may only delay hunkering down by a decade or so with nowhere left to go. That is not a long time.

Just think how far our freedoms have expanded in the last 10 years. If I go by recollection, we went from a one gun a month, may issue state to a shall issue, buy what you want state. Concealed in establishments serving alcohol is gtg. And that was with a less motivated population. The current and consistently high gun purchase rate over the last year speaks volumes wrt gun rights. I suspect gun rights wasn't necessarily one of the forefront issues. In fact when dumbo mentioned it, there was near immediate backpeddle. He's just trying to sneak statists into pole position.

This talk of finding a new home state may be appealing on the surface. And, indeed, you may find different freedoms in a different state. However, it will be a trade off; you'll find other freedoms denied.

Something about Virginia is worth fighting for. The Dems campaigned hard to get McAuliffe in office. Why? They want VA with a passion. I heard it hypothesized on BBC radio, out in Montana, that perhaps our Governor's Mansion will be Mrs. Clinton's southern headquarters.

I don't know why they are so concerned about Virginia, but I am not fixxin' to run away and let those azz 'oles have her.

Everyone needs to write your rep...

This page will tell you who your rep is:
http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/VGAMain?openform

We need to contribute to nraila... vcdl what ever can help.

I am sure the NRAILA, and VCDL do this, but it would be neat to put together some facts about violent crime per 1000 people in areas with more gun control, like DC and Baltimore, and compare it to Richmond or VA beach.

Write your reps... make them know what the people want.

I'm holding my hill. If folks abandon theirs, that is their decision. I've stood alone before and I'm sure I'll stand alone again. It doesn't matter to me; I am not leaving my post.

Seeing how being defensless worked for her daughter, it seems she'd be for arming the teahers and students everywhere.
People lobbying to disarm all citizens usually have ulterior agenda and delusions of grandeur. Dumberger for instance is like H.Hughes. Rich and delusional with paranoia issues. It's too bad he doesn't go somewhere and hide too.
For some reason, the lemmings among us listen to them and start believing the fanatical rants and lies.

The thing is to get the word out. If we could put some facts together like :

percentage of people in VA that are gun owners.
Remind them of what is going on with the new gov and transition team.
Get out flyers in mailboxes?

Maybe some real grassroots efforts. Not sure if that would help or hurt?

Everyone handle a area close to home and put them in mail boxes... I guess I should join VCDL.

If you could stir up the base of gun owners to write the reps and remind them that they dont want to loose rights, would that help?

Include other facts like... most (if not all) of the recent mass shootings have been done by crazy people that should not have had access to guns with the current laws. Most of the mass shootings have also been done in gun free zones. more laws wont stop a mad man from another mass shooting.

I'm all for it, and I'd be happy to foot the cost and time to print out my flyers and deliver them all over the area. But, I think a single person should compile the data, with reference citations. If everyone had the same flyers it would look very professional.

Anyway, my experience is that most here would like an already-established organization to put this together.

Is any organization listening?!???

If not, lets ask VCDL. They really are one of, if not THE best organizations on our side.

And i should mention I am willing to print and distribute 100s or even thousands myself. I will canvas all my local neighborhoods and do whatever I can. I'm not just talking about my neighbors.

DO NOT put flyers IN mailboxes. I did that one time, well many times, in an effort to promote my fathers business. Turns out, that sort of thing is illegal.

Dad just got a stern talking to, and was ordered to cease and desist. But, I would imagine that the subject matter discussed here might bring about something more severe.

No, but you could go around behind the newspaper deliverer ad stick them in the paper tubes. That probably will pizz off the newspapers if they find out, but it ain't a federal offense.

Figured this would happen. Just means it is time to gird up our loins and get back in there. I thought to leave after the election. However, after reflection, I have realized I do so love Virginia. She has been so good to us. I would hate to see it go the way of the nanny stater's. Time to get up and fight, and only leave the field of battle when either completely defeated or entirely victorious.
