NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Hey all, I've taken the plunge. I'm going to start reloading. I've just received the Die set and the press is on its way. Ordered primers today as well as picked up some powder.
So Now I need some suggestions on where I can find Bullets and cases.
I really don't want to spend a fortune on nasty cases that look like they have been out back under the Dog House! BUT I also know I'm not buying virgin brass. That brass is more than buying ammo at Wally World and shooting it to reclaim the brass.
If anybody has .40 cases they are willing to part with, let me know what we need to do to make that work out too.

Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
My Dad did. I don't know where it was right off hand but I'll find out in the morning and link it here. I do know that they were CCI small primers.
Didn't we have some one that had posted that he had a boat load of primers he was trying to move? Thought I remember seeing this not to long ago. Think they were smalls too.

I think so, but I'm wondering if your dad actually ordered them online. I havent been able to find pistol primers anywhere except gun broker.

Yeah he did order them on line. I will hit him up as soon as I can get him in the morning and post it here. In the mean time, if anybody has suggestions on some brass and bullets???

I just dropped all my .40 brass in the brass can at NVGC last weekend. Sorry! I'll hold onto it from now on.

Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Thanks! Since you shoot .40 start collecting them after they hit the dirt. If you want new brass to start out try Cabelas or Midway. They also sell bullets. I recommend you try the copper coated since they are much cheaper and a little easier to find. Btw, you dont really need 6000 brass cases unless you get a really good deal on them....BlueTiki wrote:Yeah he did order them on line. midway usa, graffs, natchez, mid-south, Montana gold.BlueTiki wrote: So Now I need some suggestions on where I can find Bullets and cases.
I generally make my own once fired brass. It comes from the store with bullets, and powder in it, and I had to buy another 'tool' to get that stuff out
Bad news, all of the auto loaders carbon up the brass. Some more than others, but I generally tumble ALL the brass that has hit the ground before I reload it. It gets the dirt/grit/grass/sand/crap off so I don't put the junk through my dies.BlueTiki wrote: I really don't want to spend a fortune on nasty cases that look like they have been out back under the Dog House!
Most of my revolvers I can get several firings before I need to tumble, but all the auto loader brass gets tumbled every time.
I've got a bunch of range brass 40's I can sell to you for a reasonable price. They are mixed head stamps. I've also got plenty of 165gr .40's that I can get you setup with.BlueTiki wrote: If anybody has .40 cases they are willing to part with, let me know what we need to do to make that work out too.
I can't completely denude my supply, but I'm more than willing to help a new re-loader get started with some decent components.
I'm in Warrenton, if you are willing to make the drive out PM me and we can work out the specifics.
Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Thanks for the insight all.
Silent- I agree with Zephyp on not needing 6000 shells to start with. I was looking for maybe like 500 but it looks like I might be covered with a buddy here by me. If not I'll see what you might want for a small batch of shells.
allingeneral- If you think about holding on to the brass I'd really appreciate it. Let me know when you have a bit and I'll be glad to hook up with you on that. Maybe If I catch you on a good day you could run my dad and I out to the range and we could all take turns with his Black Powder rifle.
Zephyp and jdonovan- Thank you both for the sound suggestions and tips. As I'm new I'm always looking for help from anyplace I can get it. I do know that there is a learning curve with this and hope to God I don't loose any body parts while I learn.
Thanks for the site suggestions too. I've been on a few but didn't know about all of the ones listed.

lol i wasn't suggesting you buy all 6000, i was just letting you know i had enough to cover whatever you need. brass is lake city 2009 head stamped, washed & processed - no cracks, primers removed and pockets reamed. i have automated equipment so this is an easy task.
Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
OH
Sorry for the misunderstanding. LOL Give me an idea as to what you would consider for 500 shells and are you in the Northern VA area??

Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Yup. You could reload and shoot them things for a long long time before you needed to ever think about more brass. By that time .40 might even be obsolete...silentshootr wrote:lol i wasn't suggesting you buy all 6000, i was just letting you know i had enough to cover whatever you need. brass is lake city 2009 head stamped, washed & processed - no cracks, primers removed and pockets reamed. i have automated equipment so this is an easy task.
Btw, I've calculated my supplies to take me out to oh somewhere around 20 Jan 2013.

I have a few .40s I picked up here and there you are welcome to. Are ya ever in the Staunton area?
Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Hey there Speedy. I haven't had the chance to get down your way yet. I have been thinking about getting down for the shoot and greet. Maybe I can get with you on the next one.
Oh and thank you very much.

Andy, I've been saving my brass lately. I dont have a lot, but I'll dig through what I have and sort out the 40 for you. I'm sure it wont be a lot, but you're welcome to it.
I've started saving mine, cause I expect I'll start reloading soon as well, maybe this winter.

Bill
These are once fired at the Police Range by my daughter and some of her guy's.
P.S. you will get between 500 and 600 per coffee can. Good old Maxwell house good to the last round.

Re: NEED! Looking for .40 S&W Brass and Bullets....
Thanks to all of you Speedy, Greg, Bill. I will be looking this weekend at the gun show to pick up a few things I need and will be needing to get with a few of you real soon to start loading.
Greg, are you planning to go to the show??
Speedy, There is no Staunton Shoot'n Greet in October??
I guess I'll hook up with you in November.
Bill, I may just hit the road one weekend here real soon and get with you. I'll message you when I'm thinking about getting down your way and we can see about getting together. I might even see if DK wants to run down with me and we can find some trouble to get into.
