New Range bag needed.

Post by 45XDC »

I'm looking for a good quality med-large range bag capable of handling 4-6 handguns and associated ammo/ small tool kit/ PPE (eyes&ears). Any suggestions?

I got this one from Midway for $39.99 4-5 months ago. Its way big and can carry everything you mentioned plus. Its quality construction through and through. Highly recommend it. Dont let the price fool ya. If you need a good quality large bag, you wont go wrong with this one. In addition to the bag itself (loads of zippered pouches and the main compartment) you get a lift out smaller bag, 2 zippered pistol rugs, and a bag for brass.

I used to use:
http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/ ... _Range_Bag

It was fine for 2 gun outings. Once the girl started to want to bring two of her own, and we now had 4 calibers, 2 sets of eyes/ears, tools etc it became too much for the bag.

I just picked up this:
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=259680

It looks to be 50-100% larger. This is a good/bad thing. The new bag won't fit behind the seat of the pickup anymore, but will fit in the tool box. It will now hold all my crap that I take to the range, but will possibly be too heavy to lift when loaded.

There are a lot more small loops inside outer pockets for keeping supplies organized. And therefore I'm more likely to take along some things that I've traditionally been leaving home (like bore brushes, multi-part cleaning rod, extra tools etc...) because in the dillon bag it would just be a tangled mess in one of the outer pockets.

... I have the same MidwayUSA bag... only "draw-back" is that it makes you want MORE stuff to fill it out. Right now it holds full-on Hoppe's cleaning kit, 3-holster rigs, 6-mags, ear muffs, eye-protection, +/- 500/rds of ammo, stick-on targets, and a really big pack of gum.....

Two votes for the big Midway bag and it is big. You'll never need another range bag.

... hey forgot mention (it shows on the MidwayUSA site)... there is an "inner-bag" that has separate carry-handles. I typically use this to store the range-day ammo, ear-mugs and glasses; and even sometimes just leave the larger bag in the JEEP and grab the inner unit when at the range.

... because the picture doesn't do much good - the bag itself is about the size of a standard bed pillow in width; height is about 14/16inches, depth is about 16/18 - this is with stuff in the bag.

Thanks all! The Midway Bag looks like just the ticket. I put my order in for one tonight after checking out the video on their site. It was about $53.00 shipped to the house, but after seeing that 238 people have all rated this a "5 Star" bag it must be pretty damn good. Hopefully, the wife isn't around much towards the end of the week;- I'm expecting lots of goodies from the "box man"! She recently "noticed" me sneaking in another one of those black guns if you know what I mean....So I'm trying to keep a few items under the radar.

Are any of these ranges bags actually made in the US? I prefer to purchase US made items. I know that Ace Cases are US made, but they do not have ranges bags. Eagle is also US, but for some reason their bag does not do it for me. Bulldog and iShot are out of VA, but they get their stuff from overseas.

i've been using eagle industries deluxe pro shooters bag since '05 and it's held up nicely. it is pricey but it's made & designed really well.

i don't know of a specific range bag capable of carrying more then 4 pistols so, when i need to carry more i take a deployment gear bag with internal molle and attach six or however many holsters/pouches i need to the inside.

you might also try blackhawk who makes an assortment of bags and so does tactical assault gear (TAG).

Heh. My range bag is a collapsible insulated lunch tote.

I just dangle my ears on the handle and wear my gun in.

I'm such a slacker. :bangin:

But hey, I've got almost 400 rds in there!

That's exactly what I normally do, however there are certain items I'd rather not have in my truck when driving daily through the gate of a Military Installation. Some Bases frown on firearms being snuck on even if your motive is to hide it from the misses. I never quite understood it... I can have a gun at work but I can't bring one to work. Go figure?

My $39.99 Midway USA bag( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=259680) arrived today. Damn, that bag is awesome! I could not have ask for a better built range bag. The design is perfect with tons of storage for all my crap I take with me to the range. Hell, the wife, who was home when the UPS man dropped it off was even impressed; I told her, I just had to buy it honey, it was on sale! Thanks all for recommending it!

Now you'll have to fight her for it or buy another one. I love mine especially all the removable doh-dahs that you can put in a smaller bag when you take a quick trip to the range and dont need to carry everything you own... :hysterical:

I have one of the most expensive range bags that money can buy. A 24 by 28 foot garage as it contains my reloading room and most of my shooting equipment. Walk out the door and you are at the range, LOL :hysterical: :hysterical:

I picked up a nice range bag at the gun show this weekend. it is from Hafner World Wide (http://www.hafnerworldwide.com). I did not go to the show with the intention of getting bag but when I saw this one I really liked it and it was within my spending budget for the evening. One thing that I really like is that it is made in the US. It is hard to find a bag for less than $100 made here. It is a main large compartment and two external pockets. One of the external pockets is set up to carry magazines and it came with two gun rugs (two rugs, I have two pistols it was destiny that I get this bag).

I almost bought a rifle bag as well, but did not. I should have because it was cheaper at the show then it is on the website. He also will do custom builds if you are looking for something special.
