Welfare Death Spiral?

Post by dorminWS »

OK, time for the compulsive SNOPES'ers to go into action. Here's another e-mail forward that I have not vetted. But I'll post it anyway just in case any of you other true conservatives out there are "coping with irregularity" and NEED to have your bowels loosened.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Quite an eye opener...

These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!
Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2012, between food stamps, housing support, child care,
Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. Household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support.
What's the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages
out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week,
while the average job pays $20.00 an hour.
*******************************************************
Furthermore:

There are actually two messages here. The first is very interesting, but the second is absolutely astounding - and explains a lot.

A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International
Health Organization.

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:

U.S. 65%
England 46%
Canada 42%

Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months:
U.S. 93%
England 15%
Canada 43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:
U.S. 90%
England 15%
Canada 43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:
U.S. 77%
England 40%
Canada 43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:
U.S. 71
England 14
Canada 18

Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health":
U.S. 12%
England 2%
Canada 6%

*******************************************************
And now...for the last statistic:

National Health Insurance?

U.S. NO
England YES
Canada YES
*******************************************************
Check this last set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president's cabinet... who had worked in the private business sector...prior to their appointment to the cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is; a real-life business...not a government job. Here are the percentages.

T. Roosevelt.................38%
Taft..............................40%
Wilson .........................52%
Harding........................49%
Coolidge......................48%
Hoover.........................42%
F. Roosevelt.................50%
Truman........................50%
Eisenhower..................57%
Kennedy......................30%
Johnson.......................47%
Nixon...........................53%
Ford............................42%
Carter..........................32%
Reagan........................56%
GH Bush......................51%
Clinton ........................39%
GW Bush.....................55%
Obama......................... 8%

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration: ONLY 8% of them...have ever worked in private business!

That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big
corporations...how to run their business?

How can the president of a major nation and society...the one with the most successful economic system in world history,
stand and talk about business...when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs...when he has never really had one?
And, when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? They've spent most of their time in academia,
government, and/or non-profit jobs. Or...as "community organizers."

They should have been in an employment line.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I thought myself while watching the coverage on the Obamacare website debacle "that's what you get when you hire a guy with ZERO executive/business/private employment experience to run the country".

What's compulsive about verifying the accuracy of something before propogating it further?

I hope you aren't relying on that old "cough cpr" thing to save your life.

One of the first things we have to get rid of is the mistaken notion that the President "runs the country". He runs only the federal government. And the government is not supposed to be such a large force in society as it is today; forget about the "Progressive" pretense that the government is the head of our society. If we don't turn back from that false belief (which is the basis of the "Progressive" religion), we will end up like the Soviet Union or Cuba, or the Empire in Star Wars.

We are nearly there, and moving towards it at an accelerating pace under the evil domination of the Democrats. Essentially, President Zero is a Sith, controlled by dark forces.

We need to ban the use of the phrase, "run the country" when we talk about any President.

No argument from me. I have stated on more than one occasion on this forum that the POTUS does not, cannot, and should not try to "run" the country or the economy. My favorite metaphor is that the POTUS has about as much control over the economy as I do over the airplane when I'm sitting back in coach class right in front of the toilet strapped in with a death grip on the arms of my seat trying not to puke in my lap.

But he certainly has undertaken to try to run a profound reordering of the way we do health care in this country. And he's royally, incontrovertibly screwed the pooch. That's what I was talking about.

Maybe not being able to just say "here it is; it is what it is and I do not vouch for its bona fides" - - and then letting somebody else SNOPES it.

This email has so much wrong with it, you don't even need snopes as a source.

Someone needs to google snopes.

Then throw out the daily KOS references.

Dormouse, you are perilously near to coming across as lazy and rude. Do you think so little of the readers on here that you really think it is cool to provide BS? Do a little fact-checking, man, even if it harms your post-count.

I see no harm at all in Dormins passing along of emails. It's not like he claims them to gospel or something. And, it gives us something else to talk about.

Further, judging from the projects that Dormin has shared with us, I doubt that one could accurately call the man "lazy". On the contrary, he strikes me as a busy and productive guy. Also, judging from his construction of arguments and general demeanor on the forum, he doesn't strike me as a rude guy, either.

If I had a real computer at my disposal, I'd probably fact check the thing, myself. It would give me something to research, and I would probably learn something from it. And, even though I don't feel inclined to do all that researching from a smart phone, I still appreciate the opportunity to do so.

Lazy? Maybe. But then I figure I've already paid my dues. Busy? Definitely. I just don't have time to fact-check this stuff. But if I find it interesting, I pass it along as an unvetted item and keep moving. If anybody cares, they can vet the thing. There's always somebody who will ; and the truth is I appreciate them doing it. When the thing turns out to be less than the gospel it doesn't hurt my feelings because I don't express any opinion about the truth of the matter; just that it was interesting. So it's nice to know "the rest of the story".

Is that rude or does it mean I think little of the readers here? No. Actually, I consider the readers here (well, the vast majority of them, anyway) to be astute enough to evaluate things for themselves and draw their own conclusions. I submit that is the true mark of respect.

EDIT: And by the way, I don't give a tinker's damn about my post-count. That remark might have put you perilously close to being rude yourself. But I'm sure that wasn't your intent; so no harm, no foul.
