What range did you visit, what did you shoot, how were you treated, etc. Tell us about your day at the range.

Clark Brothers (Warrenton, VA)

Post by mandoo4u »

I go here and purchase my ammo and target for my Walter P22. I think I spend about $20 bucks on 200 rounds of CCI MiniMag ammo, and 5 paper targets. I live in Haymarket area, so it's not a bad drive and I think its really inexpensive. Haven't been to some of the other ranges but price wise I think they are fair on their ammo and targets.

I used to go there quite frequently, but started going to the NRA range instead.

NRA range, the ammo seems to be a little cheaper, you can use your own targets, you can practice drawing, double taps, rapid fire, etc.

Even though there may sometimes be a wait at the NRA range, you'll eventually get in. I've waited all afternoon to get my son onto the 25 yrd range at Clarke Bros so my son could shoot his 22. He never got to that day, kinda ticked me off. The ROs at Clarke dont seem to police the lenght of time shooters are on a lane consistently. Nor do they call cease fires to change targets consistently. But they are very safety oriented.

Clarke Bros is ok, but I guess I got a little spoiled shooting at the NRA range. I still try and go there occassionally and support them. The folks working there have always been friendly and helpful.

Hello gregj. Do they let you use the range if you purchase their ammo? If not, what do they charge? Thanks. ^^

Yes, which is another reason I like the NRA, I can either bring my own ammo, or buy from there. The price of ammo there was on par with most any other gun shop. But prices are better if you can find it at Wal Mart, Dicks, etc. Also, I feel it helps to support the NRA and their 2A efforts.

The range fees are $14 an hour for NRA members, $18 an hr for non-NRA members, and there is a one time charge of $10 to get the range card. All in all, I think it's extremely reasonable.

Here's a link to the NRA Range website.

Clark brothers range is free, but you MUST buy your ammo from them if you want to shoot it on their range.

Buy ammo somewhere else...shoot it somewhere else.

If you reload save your receipts and show them and they will let you shoot your reloads.

Hello jdonovan. Oh I was asking about NRA shooting range. I check their website out and looks like
I have to pay an hourly fee to shoot there. I think I will stick with Clark Brothers shooting range cause
I can shoot 200 rounds for less than $20 dollars. :D

40shooter,

Well, you must purchase the ammo from Clark Brothers to use their range at the back free of charge.
I guess you have to pay a fee if you bring your own ammo? (Sorry not sure.) :D

I don't think so, I believe they only allow you to use it if you purchase ammo there

I stopped by there on Saturday after going to the NRA range and I really was not impressed with the range. I went in the store and picked up a box of 9mm. The store was not bad, a little cramped but they seemed to have everything. The range was a zoo. There were just too many people with too many guns in too small of an area. I would not say that i will never go back, but if I had other options I would go someplace else.

RE the ammo, I've seen the ROs check the boxes for the Clark Bros price sticker as he's going down checking all weapons are clear on a cease fire. They'll often make the announcement, if you bought it at Wal-Mart, shoot it there. I've never seen them escort someone off the line because of it though. But yes, they are a stickler, only able to use their range if you buy their ammo and targets, period, no other options.

Oh well, too bad for me, I have over 1500 rounds of .223 i need to shoot before I buy anymore. I guess I'll be shooting it somewhere else.

Thanks for the replies.
