Thoughts on the Ruger Mark III (esp Hunter)

Let's talk about guns instead of politics! What are your thoughts on the Ruger Mark III? From what I've read, disassembly is a bear, but the thing is a tack driver. I like my little SR22, but I want something more accurate.

Wife saw the Hunter model and really liked it, and so did I. Tempted... I really don't need another gun, but squirrel hunting season is just around the corner....

I have a Mark III 22/45 and love it. It's my favorite gun but, as you mentioned, a total PITA to strip.

I have four different Ruger Mark III series pistols and I find them easy and fast to field strip and reassemble. My favorite among them is a Hunter 22/45 model that I've equipped with $45 red dot sight. There are a couple of reassembly gotchas if you don't do it correctly, but there are lots of videos to show you how to avoid these issues.

Any videos you found particularly helpful? I went by the instructions ONCE and never did so again...

The Hunter is a great pistol. I prefer the Mk II which doesn't have the magazine disconnect. With practice, the Ruger Mark pistols are fine to work on. But they aren't as immediately accessible as the rifles.

It has been a few years since I looked at any videos on this, but here is one I found quickly that looks OK. You may also want to look at a couple of others too that go into more detail.

I have the Ruger Mark III 22/45 and love it. You will not regret it once you start shooting it.

I like the Mark IIs a little better just because they don't have the mag disconnect but you can't go wrong with either. Fun guns prefect for teaching people or just shooting cheap and I agree the breakdown as not as tough as some would have you think. Family member of mine has one and I'm always borrowing it to teach people to shoot. I should probably get my own!

Reassembly isn't all that bad - we'll worth what you get for tack driving precision.

Wife and I had a little competition at the range. We used 3" targets with the Hunter at 30' and the SR22 at 21. I shot high - nice, very tight groups, but high. She got 'em all spot on the bulls-eye. She won. I am both proud and chastised.

Ruger MKIII = the benchmark for .22LR pistols (Browning Buckmarks are a close second)

Good choice. That's 3 or 4 lifetimes worth of competition-quality shooting. So if you break it down as cost per year, it's a screaming bargain.
