So says Chris Matthews of MSNBC. No word about where THAT made him tingle.

Yeah, I think Mr. Matthews needs a history lesson in how the country collected revenue for the first 100+ years of its existence....

Individual income tax in 2012 totaled 1.1 trillion dollars. It was 46% of all federal tax collected. The total government spending was 3.5 trillion. The defecit was also 1.1 trillion.
I am sure that we could all agree on 1.1 trillion dollars worth of government spending to cut. Most of us in this forum could probably agree on over 2.2 trillion worth of government spending to cut. Which would elimate income tax, and the defecit.
Letting the government decide how to cut or increase it's own spending, seems a little ridiculous to me... The system we have is flawed beyond repair, but until it collapses, I don't see any hope of a new one.

Fair Tax, Flat Tax, whatever. It's got to be better than what we are doing now.

Which is exactly why it'll never pass. No way to game the system.OakRidgeStars wrote:Fair Tax, Flat Tax, whatever. It's got to be better than what we are doing now.

People who blindly give in to tyranny are also traitors, Chris. As are those who allow themselves to be the mouthpiece of tyranny.

Hmm, quick math = a deficit of $3,500 / year for ever man, woman, and child in the US. Taxpaying ones, anyway.
Re: Supporters of Abolishing IRS “Insane” And “Traitors"
I have no problem with the IRS per se (tax collectors are as old as civilization itself), but it need not exist in its present form.
Re: Supporters of Abolishing IRS “Insane” And “Traitors"
Tax collectors are in close running with prostitutes for the oldest profession, but with little difference in outcome.

I vote for the FLAT tax all the way. The IRS is a huge money waster!

Remember, even in the bible, no one liked them because they kept asking Jesus why he associated with tax collectors.

At least with prostitutes you have a choice.
