Definitely muffs - much easier. Young now uses both at the same time. Some ranges (Quantico) require both for large bore rifle.

I'm using a set of no-name muffs from the local Bass Pro Shop. They are the electronic auto muting type with a volume control on the side. It's nice not having to lift up one side to hear someone when I'm not shooting.

After my last trip an indoor range I'll never use just plugs again. It's been over a week and my left ear is still ringing. I left my Peltor muffs at home by accident and thought plugs would be a suitable substitute. They are NOT!
Buy 'em while you still can!

Depends on the NRR rating and how you put them in. Some are better than others and can be just as good as muffs only less convenient.

Also, shooting outdoors is quite a lot different than shooting indoors. I do prefer muffs when shooting indoors, but plugs do a fine job outdoors.

Muffs usually. Lately I've been keeping a small pouch with a pair of safety glasses and some ear plugs in the car for unplanned range trips. By unplanned, I mean that quick trip to the range, maybe after work or something, to put a box or two through my concealed carry or house gun. For the "planned" trips I usually take several guns with me. :machinegun:
The kids always get doubled up with both muffs and smooshie ears.

Since my wife took my good muffs for herself, I now use Foam plugs. Actually like them better. Problem is I tend to talk louder when I am wearing them...get lots of complaints from the wife.

Once you go electronic you never go back LOL! I use Peltor SwatTac's and Sordin Supreme ProX's... I also used them in the middle east and still use the same ones. They are good quality so I'll definitely vouch for both brands.

Another plus, the amplified mic gives you an advantage when hunting, cause you can hear more/farther away.

I'm a muff man, I tried plugs on my last range trip but they give me that underwater kind of hearing.

*shrug* What ever I have on hand. I keep plugs in my kit, just in case but as a preferance??? I guess Mouse Ears (muffs) are easiest. :dunno:

MUFF!

for both me and the kids...

I had borrowed a set from a friend one day, and he told he put a spare set in his truck and they had gotte lots of use and saved many eardrums, so i put an extra set in the trunk...and they get almost as much useage as my mainstay headphones...
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

I purchased Peltor tactical 7's electronic muffs a year and a half ago... should have bought them 20 years ago when I first started shooting. What a difference. Yes, electronic cost quite a bit more, but they are so worth it. I highly recommend them to one and all.

They are a little difficult using on a rifle stock from time to time however I must admit, but still well worth it for me.

I use custom plugs when its just me, or if I'm going to be shooting for a long time. When I'm teaching I use electronic muffs - despite getting sweaty ears. I hate that :)
