After considering the advice you guys gave me and the advice of others, I am working on purchasing a Glock 22. It will be my first handgun and I am looking into putting a lot of range time.

The Glock 22 (.40 S&W caliber) is a great handgun. If the availability and price for .22 rimfire ammo ever goes down, you can get a .22 conversion kit to help reduce the ammo cost of practice. Or, you could buy a standalone .22 pistol. While you can't use a .22 to practice things like recoil control and speed shooting with a service caliber handgun, you can use a .22 for practicing about 80 percent of things you to be able to do as a good pistol shooter with any handgun. Make sure you shop around thoroughly and avoid the gougers. Prices have come down a little, but there are still people out there who are mighty proud of the pistols they're trying to sell. Also, I don't what others think, but I'd do a private sale. That way the Fed doesn't know you have it because there is no paperwork trail except for the bill of sale between you and the seller. Get a bill of sale! That way if the gun has a bad history you can point to where it came from and absolve yourself of responsibility for any potential problems. Good luck and happy shooting!
