NY state troopers hesitant to enforce new gun laws

Post by OakRidgeStars »

Cuomo's new gun law is about as popular as herpes and cooties combined.

I spoke to some NY State Troopers earlier this week. Their comment on the new law was that they aren't going to notice any "assault weapons" unless someone "makes them" notice.

I'm not entirely sure what that means, but the general feeling was that they didn't want to enforce the law.

Don't really believe the troopers. I think they don't want any public backlash. Most police organizations are for gun control.

The counterpoint to that is the City of Albany NY Police Union writing a scathing four-page letter to Governor Cuomo regarding the safe act. The letter concerned the SAFE Act's unconstitutionality, negligible effect on crime, and criminalizing of the law abiding..

They wrote the letter after active duty police officers were exempted from the law.

While many of the high level brass may be anti gun, most of the officers at the street level view law abiding citizens as their allies in the fight against crime.

Organizations? perhaps.

Actual officers?

Far from it.

I was in some training this week with a couple NYS Troopers. A key point we've probably already heard expressed or covered here is that they greatly resent the disproportionate influence exerted by NYC and it's elitists over the rest of the state. They were good guys, loved firearms and are sickened by Schumer and Bloomberg.

Having been in law enforcement my entire adult life, I respectfully disagree. See link below on police opinion on gun control. The "organization" might toe the party line and not "want any public backlash" but not the officers. Contrary to popular belief, the rank and file are generally like you and me. Sure, you'll find a couple of bad apples, but that's with any profession...
