As the debate for universal background checks continues, CNN rolls out this piece about their team hitting up gun shows and purchasing firearms in private transactions. No paperwork, no ID, not even a name being asked. Just cash and carry. Not that any of this would be fixed if universal background checks becomes the law of the land, but I can't believe with such a spotlight on the subject how some of these private sellers could be what some people would call irresponsible.

"In fact, in all the deals, the team paid LESS than the asking price." Uh, that's called negotiation.
Not really sure what your point is here? The story mentioned that (GA?) law says sellers were supposed to check ID to see if the buyer was out-of-state. If I were selling, I'd check VA law for the same thing. If it did not stipulate that I had to check ID, why would you expect me to do so? I don't check ID when I sell items at a yard sale, either.

Where's the story about how they went and committed crimes with the guns they just bought?
Oh, there isn't one?
Then.... What's the problem?
That's what I don't understand. How many guns are sold without background checks, how many of those would have not passed background checks, and then how many of those were used to commit crimes?

Everybody needs to take some personal responsibility when selling a firearm. These things are not lawnmowers at a yard sale. To sell to a total stranger without even getting a name or ID is just asking for trouble and fuels the anti gun movement.

Questions that come to mind:
(1) Are there really folks selling from booths at gun shows that are that stupid?
(2) Or were those transactions staged? - The guy who sold the AR in SC called the magazine a "clip". So he ain't a real gun guy. Was he a plant, or was he just some dumbass trying to scalp an AR while the panic was on?
(3) The CNN people went to gun shows intending to violate the law and perservered until they succeeded. Were they duly deputized, and if not, will they be prosecuted? Could I go out and buy some street oxys and announce on the local TV station that dope dealers didn't ask me for a prescription without getting my @ss thrown in the gaol? m How 'bout if I demonstrate how many prostitutes are doing business in town? Will the Commonwealth's Attorney give me a pass because I delivered a public service announcement? I know damn well SWMBO would not.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
