You must register your pepper spray with law enforcement if you want to carry in DC. I'm not 100% sure that this law doesn't apply to non-residents as well as residents.Paliden wrote:Does anyone know the laws in DC on carring pepper spray? Re: re 9/12 March Washington, Question
I got this from a website that is all about that stuff.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: Legal with restrictions. lawful if used or possessed by a person 18 or over “in the exercise of reasonable force in defense of the person or the person’s property only if it is propelled from an aerosol container, labeled with or accompanied by clearly written instructions as to its use, and dated to indicate its anticipated useful life.” The buyer must complete a registration form, and the vendor must forward the form to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Good grief. Guess I better plan on leaving anything short of a crayon at home. Can we at least use bad language if confronted by a mugger?

Maybe, but only if you don't offend him or anyone else within earshot. It may not be illegal, but everything is illegal in civil court until proven otherwise - thus the need for tort reform.zephyp wrote:Good grief. If you were to carry a pocket knife in DC here is the guidleine to go by.Just keep it at or under 3"and your fine,,

I think the blade in the Leatherman's blade is longer than 3" but it isn't a pocketknife... that count? it is a locking blade as are all the attachments.

Re: re 9/12 March Washington, Question
Everything I could find was for fixed blades, A folder or multi tool should be fine,,, Note that the law says "with intent" which they would have to prove ,, The simple act of wearing or carrying it does not show intent,

So understanding the DC laws now, this means I can't go because I'm a walking time bomb with a hair trigger, my wife can't go because she's a firecracker (both explosives) best friend can't go he's a pistol (no permit and you can't disassemble him, some tried didn't work)

I plan on attending both the Richmond and DC marches. I know we can OC for teh VA march, but what about doing the empty holster thing for DC? Or you you think Metro PD would use an empty holster as an excuse to detain, search, and otherwise attempt to thwart our efforts?
CLEAR DOWNRANGE!!!

VA-ALERT: Important - gun owners attending 9-12 Project
*******************************************************
1. IMPORTANT: for those attending the 9-12 Project Rally in DC
Saturday READ THIS!
*******************************************************
If you are going to be at the 9/12 Project rally in DC this upcoming
Saturday, please read this!
I have suggested that gun owners who are going to the event should
wear an empty holster to protest DC's unconstitutional ban on your
right to carry a gun for self-defense.
PLEASE NOTE: DO ***NOT*** bring any AMMUNITION into DC! It is a
felony for every unregistered round!
I could see myself carefully taking my gun out of my holster, securing
the gun in the car, jumping on the metro, and totally forgetting the
spare magazine on my hip! Hmmm - seven felonies just waiting to
happen.
It's always such a great feeling to reenter American when that metro
crosses back into Virginia on the way home!

Try a small can of Wasp Spray and a butane lighter. Better range than pepper spray and burns a heck of a lot hotterzephyp wrote:Good grief. Guess I better plan on leaving anything short of a crayon at home. Can we at least use bad language if confronted by a mugger?

Of course if you got searched with those items the cops would put two and two together and maybe even come up with four.

I like carburetor cleaner better. Especially if you use the little extension wand that comes with it.Dragonfly wrote:Try a small can of Wasp Spray and a butane lighter.
