Walther PPS

Post by maljay »

Anyone have any experience with the PPS? It looks and feels like a great carry piece but I really do not like the mag release. It is built into the bottom sides (both sides) of the trigger guard. I tried at the last Chantilly gun show and could not figure out a quick way to release the magazine. Maybe I just do not know how to use the gun or maybe it is just a poor design. Anyone?

This has been my EDC since May of this year. The mag release is something you can get used to though. It is the same as release ont he HK pistols.

The way I do it is with my middle finger helping my trigger finger push down on the lever. Depending on which mags you are using you might get bitten where the mag meets the grip.

I also bought an Airsoft version so I could sit in front to the idiot box and practice the release over and over.

Hope this helps.

Good Idea, Where did you pick up an air-soft PPS? I recently picked one up a PPS for warm weather CCW and that sounds like a good way to get familiar with its mag release.

I just returned from testing two new Walther's that I've added to my collection. The PPS in .40 fired flawlessly with both cheap range ammo as well as some higher end Remington Golden sabers. It hit the point of aim regularly and even though the .40 has a little snap to it I had no trouble conducting double tap drills. In other words its recoil is not bad, in fact it was much less than I expected from such a small gun.
Next up was Walther's P22 that I got at the SGK gun show last week. It too was flawless with a wide variety of ammo including sub sonic rounds that it cycled without a hiccup. Grouping was damn good for such a short barrel.
Finally, I broke out my Kel-Tec PF9--I really love this gun it's extremely small, but packs a 9mm punch, and just over $200.00 new. I'd love to tell you that it too worked well but I can not tell a lie.... It sucked today. Countless FTF's , Stove pipes, Fail to eject- regardless of the type of ammo I used. I ended up getting fed up with it and just called it quits. I'll be sending it back to the factory for a tune up. Even with its flaws,I really like the PF9; hopefully the service dept at Kel-Tec will live up to outstanding customer service I've heard about, and turn my finicky little pea shooter into a reliable BUG.

I just picked up a walther P22 today at the gun show in Dale City, I was told to fire high velocity ammo through it for the first 100 or so rounds. But accordind to your post it should do well with regular rounds, Is this correct?

I was never told anything about what ammo to use in the P22, but then again I never ask. When I took it to the range I just grabbed several boxes that I had laying around. Some were high velocity, some not, and like I mentioned some were also sub-sonic. I even filled the mag with the various types mixed together and it ate 'em up.
