Silver Eagle Group
I joined Silver Eagle range several months ago. It is a new operation, started in December I believe, but they have it all together. It is a state of the art range and the folks who work there are very professional. The air handlers are first rate as is everything at the range. You will feel very safe shooting there. If the range safety officers, and they have several at all times, see anyone doing anything unsafe, they will act to control the situation quickly. One of the range officers noticed that my wife was holding a semiautomatic incorrectly and provided some guidance. I didn't even notice that she had her left thumb crossing over her right directly under the slide. He pointed out that she might get caught in the slide and showed her the correct method of holding the pistol. It even improved her grouping. I highly recommend Silver Eagle. http://silvereagle-group.com/

Re: Silver Eagle Group
SEG is a nice indoor range. I noticed on their website that they now publish their low-end individual/family memberships, they seem to be competing in price with BRA, and that they have scaled back their hours. I hope this means they are just coming down to earth with the impression of themselves and not soon to close.

Do you know where Redskin Park is? They're less than a minute up the road.

If you have any trouble finding the place, GPS will get you lost, just call them: (703)723-5173
The hours are in the process of being extended again, those were the summer hours. Not sure if it will be later or earlier, but in the last e-mail they sent out they were asking for people opinions and ideas for the facility to be sent to Membership@silvereagle-group.com . They aren't going anywhere, they're doing everything to make people happy and repetitive customers if not Members.LFS wrote:SEG is a nice indoor range. If anything, BRA is pricey, not competitive, at a penny cheaper. They've had to up their prices after the OSHA fine they got for all the lead contaminating the place. Its really no competition for which place is the better value, do you like your health, or .12 cents a year.

SE is changing its weekday hours. Mon, Wed, and Fri will open at 10am instead of 2pm. I am looking forward to the earlier hours since it will get me there and back before rush hour traffic.

It will actually be 11am-8pm on Thursday's and Fridays, then opening at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. SEG is keeping the 2-8pm hours Mon-Wed in November, and only making the permanent switch Mon-Fri in December if people show an interest now.maljay wrote:SE is changing its weekday hours. Re: Silver Eagle Group
My wife and I joined early this month. I've been going to ranges for years in many states, and military ranges when I was active duty.
The SEG facility is really nice. The air handlers are top notch and there is only the faintest hint of powder. My wife really likes the place and the fact that the RSO's are johnny-on-the-spot keeping things safe. She's a new shooter and was really nervous about going to a place where people are shooting. She was afraid someone would sweep her with a muzzle or fool around like ass clowns.
There is a small deli, a growing store, couches, and a friendly atmosphere. They allow one to carry into and in the facility. They support a wide range of calibers. They have a range with moving targets (my wife said it reminded her of the ducks at a carnival gallery). I hear they do IDPA, but I haven't checked it out yet. No wait times! I've only been a member a couple weeks but I've never had to wait for a lane. $100 initiation fee and $45 / month let my wife and I shoot as much as we want, single rate is $35 / month. The hourly rate is $25 / hour, but if you shoot often (even only two or three times a month, a membership pays for itself really quickly).
Many ranges I've been too I visited only once because of some stupid idiots playing the fools running around the lanes playing Rambo. I stepped out of the car, stepped back in and fled. The range owner was like, "Guess I'll go talk to them." Yeah, you go do that. SEG has none of that crap. Plus it's right down the road from my house.

I shoot there regularly at their IDPA matches. The ROs are very professional, and run good matches. The facility is of course top notch. I enjoy going there, just wished I lived closer, if I did I would join.

Re: Silver Eagle Group
SEG was a driving factor in my getting back into the shooting sports. WIth their prices competitive with BRA I toured the facility in Sept. 2009. I was treated with the utmost repect. This is one place were there are truly "no dumb questions."
DJ, at the firearms/sales counter, is great. He happened to be at Chantilly when I was selecting an AR and he was of great help & reassurance in my purchase.
However, the time they most impressed me was the day after T-giving 2009 when my son and I escorted four younguns to the range. The SO's and staff in general were so accomodating to the youngsters!!!! There were no looks of terror, or such (not that I was expecting any).
If I were to make one suggestion; a large, stand up counter just out side of the range entrances would be ideal for loading ammo, or just setting my stuff down while I don/doff eyes & ears.

Re: Silver Eagle Group
I live and work in the area, and find SEG a great place to go and take my wife to. Before my wife got a pistol I took a class with her. The instructor was great and the class taught her those basics I wanted her to learn.
While previous posts mention the under construction aspect, I can assure you that 4/10 the place has a good stocked store, rental selection, and completed facilities.
SEG works great for me because I got tired of waiting at NRA all of the time, and I do not recall ever having to wait for range time with the exception of me and my wife having booths next to each other one day...no big deal.
I am not a member, I just don't go that often to become a member. I will just go in inclement weather days. I have a friend with a property out west that is more fun for shooting. Overall, SEG is worth the extra $10 compared to other places. The facilities are great, the staff is good, and I enjoy my overall experience going there from time to time for about a year now.

Re: Silver Eagle Group
So I was reading this thread and realized that SEG is less than a tenth of a mile from where I work. So I swing by to take a look at the facilities and take a look at their shop. I will say this. From what I saw, the ranges are top notch. I asked about what options there were for memberships and was told that their memberships were closed and it was unknown when they would be accepting new members. But I was looking for a new handgun and was debating between the Glock 19 and the Springfield XDm. And went by the shop portion as well. Well needless to say their products were severely overpriced. Glock 19 was over $600. The employee there asked me if I was willing to look at other brands. I said sure, I was always willing to take a look at another firearm. He pulled out an IWI Jericho 941 in 9mm. And gave me the great salesmen pitch and how it was his preferred side arm that he carried daily. When I picked up I did agree that while it was a heavy gun, it was well balanced and the grip was well designed. But since this was the first I had seen of the Jericho I wasn't willing to drop the $650 they were asking without doing further research. I was glad I did. Almost all the reviews I read of the Jericho said nothing but great things about it. I however discovered something the salesmen forgot to mention to me. KBI, the company that imports and services the Jericho, had gone out of business. (see link below) And no other company had picked up the warranty service yet for the pistol. While I feel the Jericho is a great pistol and could be persuaded to purchase one, it unfortunately is built by humans that are not perfect and as such will fail at some point. I felt this was a major oversight by the salesmen to not mention that there was currently no warranty repairs possible on the pistol that they were trying to sale to me at full price. You can find the same model new in box for half the price they had listed on sites such as gunbroker and gunsamerica.

Well I go to the gun show in Chantilly about a week later and see they have a table there. With a big banner saying they offering sign ups for their memberships. So I stop by and ask about the membership and they said that they should start accepting new members in the next month or two. Well I go ahead and sign up just, because of the sheer convenience of them being practically next door to where I work.
So I stop by there this evening after work since I had a hankering to go shoot some rounds down range even though I would have to pay the non-member price. I arrive there at 7:04 pm. I was asked if I was a member and when I said no. The lady at the front desk informed me that I couldn't shoot cause they will not allow any non-members to enter the range if they arrive on site after 7pm since they close at 8pm. I said oh, ok. Have a good evening and walked back out to my car. So I understand that the company closes at 8pm, but I still have 50+ minutes to shoot. That's even allowing 6 minutes for any paperwork they would have me feel out. So I guess Silver Eagle Group is making so much money right now that they can turn away customers without a second thought. They invited me to come back at a later date to shoot, but to be honest I really have no incentive to go back. They have already shown that my business is not important to them. So why should I go back?
Now compare that to my first job. I worked at an indoor race track and was informed by the owner on my first day that if a paying customer showed up at 8:59pm and we were closing at 9:00 pm we had best get him/her out on that track and racing. The customers provided my paycheck and the best way to make sure I kept my paycheck was to make sure we had happy customers that were likely to come back. By the way I am not 60+ years old either. I am only 25 and yes there are some companies out there that really do value a happy customer. And will go that extra mile to get your service.

I want to try SEG.
Can I shoot my shotgun there? Slugs only?
I just bought my first shotgun and all the ranges I've called will only let me shoot slugs. I really want to try shooting some buck and bird through it.
