CC in Fairfax County Parks
I'm trying to find out what the law says about carrying a firearm in Fairfax County Parks - specifically Lake Accotink. I've checked the Parks Authority regulations and it does not forbid carrying a firearm. Yet if I do a google search I can find a couple of older news articles that discusses a long standing ban on carrying firearms in FFX County parks. I know what the state law says. I've also searched the VGOF board.
Anyone know the answer and if there is such a ban can refer me to the specific county code section?
Thanks!

Dk, think pre-emption. It's a county park so it is pre-empted by state law.

Thanks, Gary. That was my first thought as I eluded in the post, but I'd hate to get in a contest with local LE if the county does have something like this on the books. I dont like to be harassed (who does) so I make an effort to avoid it whenever possible.Moccasin wrote:Dk, think pre-emption. It's a county park so it is pre-empted by state law.

IIRC some of the counties left their old signs up in an effort to mislead people. I think Loudoun was specifically mentioned as having done this. Prince William or Fairfax may have had some county property posted when it shouldn't have also, I don't recall which one though.

No signs posted at Accotink and nothing specific in their rules. Also nothing in the county code. I just found a couple of old articles that said there was a ban.
I'm with you - state law trumps and I aint gonna worry about it.

All I could find is they don;t want projectiles, knives over 4" and fireworks. That came out of the parks rule book

Now that would create a scene, but we could certainly try if everyone agrees. I'm certain people would be running and screaming all over the place at that one. Could be some great fun.allingeneral wrote:So, is this a scouting effort for the next VGOF OC Picnic?
Actually, I'm getting ready to close on a house less than 2 miles away from the lake and plan to spend time there fishing and relaxing. I'd rather not be a victim while doing so or walking back and forth. Plus they have several miles of walking trails Young and I like. Not to mention its a popular place to pick morel mushrooms in the spring and that is specifically forbidden in their rules and a misdemeanor to boot.
Thanks, Spence. Thats pretty much all I found too so I aint gonna give it any more worry. I'll be concealed anyway so it shouldnt be an issue.

That being the case I could always sling my AR and parade around the park by the Nice bridge while carrying a very large Dixie flag...Moccasin wrote:I think he's jealous and wants a buddy like the one you found by the bridge.allingeneral wrote:So, is this a scouting effort for the next VGOF OC Picnic?

Thanks, Bing. I'll do that. Btw, how do you carry on a bike? I use an IWB and regular compression shorts, but sweat like crazy. No sense carrying in a backpack where you cant easily get to it. You know of any decent frame packs other than one across the handlebars? I'm not a big fan of those.Jericho01 wrote:I've CC'd there before when biking. Is that a dare? And since there's 2 of you - kinda like a double dare? I'll tell you what, I dont have a big Dixie flag but if someone brings one to the picnic I just might ask to borrow it for a short while...Moccasin wrote:Yeah, what Riana said DK. ^^^

((Not to bust your chops DK...BUT,..))
The the Dixie flag??? Never heard of it...or could you be referring to the corporate logo of Winn-Dixie on a banner? or, perhaps, you are referring to the Confederate Battle Flag??
and why, would that be A.) unusual B.) cause consternation among the masses...???
OH, thats right, because Northern Virginia is not really Virginia, it is a bastardized suburb of that self engrossed politcal cesspool washington DC...and mostly populated with the uneducated sheeple who never learned THIER history, incorrectly associate this symbol of honor, pride, and southern tradition with slavery and the war of northern aggression...
As we are in the Old Dominion, South of the Mason Dixon line, ( why, I Do Declare!! )...and since i consider myself a dyed in the Wool, Southern Gentleman... I certainly have a Confederate Battle Flag, and maybe even have the design on a blanket or two... and a couple of them here and there, and even a small one on the bumper of my '71 p/u truck...
Lived most of my life in Va, married a Va girl , raised my kids in Va... not perfect, its just the best thing going
... and this symbol is a relevant, and living part of OUR history...
and i do mean this totlally "tounge in cheek", but it does irk me just a little, that much like firearms, there is a undeserved attached stigma to this symbol that requires a poke in the ribs with a wink , and a nudge...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

For a long time I had the last official Confederate flag (3rd National) on my wall in my gun room. That is the one to fly.

Re: CC in Fairfax County Parks
Well, a couple of our comrades have dared me to sling my AR and march with a Confederate flag around the park by the Nice bridge where Rick met the LEO from MD. They've even demanded pictures as proof - the gall of some people - to prove that I actually did it. I've got an AR and a camera. All I need is a nice big flag - AND a prayer that I can do it when there is no one else in the park...herohog wrote:For a long time I had the last official Confederate flag (3rd National) on my wall in my gun room. I think I'll order one and also a Bonnie Blue. I'll soon have my own gun room and those will be nice additions. I'll also be able to proudly display the old 12 gauge that my Father left me after he passed away.
