Army training in Miami, w/ MG fire?
Army training in Miami, w/ MG fire?
Howdy,
This bothers me greatly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... i9ioCbqJCU
At the end they show the raw video and you can hear the MG firing.
I thought this might be a hoax so I went to the Miami News 7 website:

Re: Army training in Miami, w/ MG fire?
Just talking on a USCG point of view: We do similar exercises where live and blank ammo is used. We'll pony up and charge into the training area like it would most likely happen. We'll tow seized boats behind another boat and shoot the hell out of it. We'll do training with the Navy, we do all kinds of cool stuff.
But guess what?
We do it AWAY from the PUBLIC. That's just beyond STUPID and dangerous. The only exercises that we'll perform around the public is when we're doing boat trials and we may be throwing water in the air from rooster tails or doing hairpin turns. But even then we inform the public beforehand that we're doing this in that area, stay clear this many yards or miles or feet high. Why can't you do this around a base where it's a little more restricted, or heck... in the middle of the ocean where if a round goes down range you can ensure it's going into the middle of the Atlantic and not the main blvd? What if one of the helicopters clipped a power line? What IF one of the rounds wasn't a blank and you just sent a .50 cal live round through the middle of Miami?
I don't know whose idea this was, but I'm sure they won't keep their job for much longer.

Urban training happens all the time, has for years. Nothing new, using BFA's and blanks. I highly doubt the "choppers" (I hate that word) were firing them due to the risk of a empty causing damage as it falls from the air.

The video suggests it was from the 21 Jan 2013. The page (2nd href) is dated 21 Apr 2011, 2 years before the video.
And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!

I believe it was just posted on Youtube which is where I found it by chance. The date on Miami 7 news article is Posted: 04/21/11 at 4:50 am EDT. I'd say it is old.
Well if the shots didn't come from the helicopter(s) where did it come from? It sounded heavy like a 30 cal. I doubt it came from the police below. Even still what the heck are they doing? Why is the Army practicing with the police. Two very different jobs. Notice they didn't say National Guard.
I've heard rumors that the Air Force has done atomic bombing runs on cities and anti air on commercial aircraft. I have seen Navy planes flying up hollers in WV. This doesn't bug me too much. It's not like anyone ever sees them or they are harming the public. Though I witnessed one that almost took out the high voltage power lines on our property...
VACoastie,
When I'm the US President there will be a good deal of money for all 5 branches to do lot's of real training. As you said, in designated areas.

Man Purdune, if you could just give us Coasties enough money to fix our fleet we'd be PLENTY happy with that! I'm about to be stationed on a cutter whose keel was laid before I was even a concept lol

Could have been a 240, hard to tell size by noise in a video from an urban environment due to sound and echoes.Purdune wrote:I believe it was just posted on Youtube which is where I found it by chance. The date on Miami 7 news article is Posted: 04/21/11 at 4:50 am EDT. I'd say it is old.

Ive many of AF aircraft practicing strafing/bomb runs in rural areas. I was told by and AF pilot back then (early 90's) that they used cameras to determine accuracy.
As for joint training exercises, there are dozens on comspiracy theories on them. I don't read too much into any of them though, thats just me though.
FYI, I don't trust much of anything the government or media says.

The government is full of "lack luster" people. They sometimes do things that aren't the best idea. What scares me is when we put up with it. Even more so when the press puts up with it or worse yet tells us it is/was needed.
I've got no problem with training. Even some simulated stuff with "live" targets. Still we don't need joint military/police training like this. Communications lines can be tested without this. National Guard should be used anyway.

Re: Army training in Miami, w/ MG fire?
To add a little fuel to the fire. I have lived within ear shot of Quantico marine corps base for about 8 years now. It is not unusual to hear the sound of heavy artillery practice being performed on a routine basis. Its actually kind of cool. But what I find unusual is the fact that within the last month as the artillery was booming, between reports I could hear the unmistakable rata tat tat of heavy machine gun fire. Sort of interesting that in the 8 years I have lived hear I have never before heard the use of M2s during practice. Sort makes me wonder.
Re: Army training in Miami, w/ MG fire?
To pile on,
What worries me about the Marines is all the non lethal stuff they have been testing over the years. Now I realize they defend areas like embassies. Non lethal protection of an embassy could come in very handy. Still it's one of those things that makes you go hum...
