US Constitution to be read in to House record- 15 Jan 2013
Virginians,
Tomorrow morning, my House Rep, Bob Goodlatte, will be reading the US Constitution into the House record. Here's the message I got in my mail:
Goodlatte Announces Reading of U.S. Constitution on House Floor
Tune in on Tuesday, January 15 at 10 AM
Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. I will lead the reading of the U.S. Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives. One of the resounding themes I have heard from my constituents is that Congress should adhere to the Constitution and the finite list of powers it grants to the federal government. Our constitutional principles remain timeless and it is fitting that we start the 113th Congress by reading the Constitution aloud on the floor of the House of Representatives.
The Constitution is the written consent the American people gave to their government to protect individual liberty and maintain limited government. This reading of the Constitution demonstrates that House Republicans are committed to our Constitution and the enduring principles for which it stands.
Tomorrow’s reading is only the second time the U.S. Constitution has been read aloud in the House of Representatives. It was first read at the beginning of the 112th Congress when Republicans regained the majority. I am honored to continue to lead the reading of the Constitution in the new Congress.
To view this event, tune in to C-SPAN at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. You can also watch online by visiting the House website or on C-SPAN's website.

Met him years ago, good guy, but he is a poster child for term limits. Should run for Senate instead.

Been done before...the problem isn't the reading, it's the lack of listening and understanding that this document checks their power!

Have to agree with Gunderwood on this one. I often have to wonder if the politicians could pass one of their mandated standardized tests in general, but specifically those that test reading comprehension. It just seems like most of these people cannot get it through their thick skulls what those words mean on that piece of parchment penned so long ago.

Will there also be a reading of the names of folks who are not present and did not listen to the US Constitution reading?

I think politicians know what the Constitution says and they know what the original intent of the 2nd Amendment was. They simply don't care. The part they don't get isn't the words on the paper, but that we the people, no kidding, expect them to govern within the rules we set up. It's not negotiable or ok to govern how you want simply because you were elected. We are suppose to be a country ruled by law, but politicians, by and large, are the most lawless people in the land...and I'm including those in prison.totes6 wrote:Have to agree with Gunderwood on this one. This constitution needs to be read on every TV channel, every radio station, and plastered on the main page of every US .com domain every other Tuesday. That way the CITIZENS will be reminded of it as well. Ask any Joe Schmo what his 3rd amendment is from the Bill of Rights. Bet they won't know. That'll be aired every 3rd Thursday.

And the US and State Constitutions need to be taught in an actual Civics class, not just as one chapter over one week.

I like that it is been read and that it looks like a few of our representatives are actually listening to their constituency. I just hope they continue to do so to prevent further intrusions into our lives.

Re: US Constitution to be read in to House record- 15 Jan 2013
but... but... The Constitution is a LIVING DOCUMENT! The framers of the Constitution couldn't have foreseen where our country is today, therefore it must be adjusted to correspond to the lack of values, the lack of initiative and the lack of finding a job and working for a living! The Constitution MUST BE adjusted to allow every man, woman and child to live off the government dole should they so choose!!
Jeesh - you conservatives are so stuck in the end of the 18th century!!

yes, who would think "Living" actually means it's changeable by a defined Constitutional process rather than a reinterpretation of existing words. Funny, I thought lawmaker's jobs were to use words to define law. I guess the basic skill level for that has also slipped.

One of the problems with lawyers being legislators too,,,they can twist anything the way they want and if people are not aware get away with it;
