Mosin nagant

This may not be the perfect place to put this thread. Mods move as you wish.

I am unfamiliar with how sales of surplus rifles work. I am looking to get a mosin nagant in the next month or two. I have looked online and Iike everything else they are gone gone gone. Which surprises me a little because they are a bolt action rifle. Do they come out a few items a year? Can you find them in a gun show? Can you just walk into green top and get one?

Tanks for any insight you can shed on this.

You will probably have better luck finding a Mosin at a gun show these days. The VGOF event calendar has all the upcoming shows, like one in Dale City and one in Richmond.

http://vagunforum.net/viewcalendar.php

Mosins are imported from ComBlock countries by the crate as they become available, as seen here:

Too bad that the days of scoring one for $75 are long gone.

I've seen videos of gun shops having entire crates of inventory of Mosins, but like you said everything is gone. I'm sure they're still floating out there and making their way through the channels to get resupplied at the stores that sell them, but I'm more concerned about the ammo and if enough would still be around in my lifetime at a reasonable price. I hear they're great guns for the price but the ammo supply is what prevents me from getting one. The last thing I want is a $100± walking stick.

I had no idea they were going for triple what I paid for mine.

I don't know....I have seen auctions for $300, but. I don't know if those are super special ones or not.

Dark Sun has them Mama for about $199 or so, if memory serves me. Ammo is hard to find, because of the current environment, but J&G sales is rolling a can for about $70...doesn't include shipping.

Love my Mosins - paid $110-ish for a 91/30 about 5 years ago and $125 for an M38 2 years ago.

AimSurplus has 440 rd tin for $80. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... groupid=40

they still had them at the gun show in chantilly two weeks ago, check out dark sun surplus, they were around $129.00 may still have a few in stock. here is a tip if you find one, make sure the extractor isnt sheered off of the bolt. my buddy bought one and didnt realize it until he got home and started cleaning it up.

Most of the basic 91/30's (round receivers) I've seen recently have been going for around $129. Expect to pay more for the M44 -- around $200 or more. Chinese Type 53's are cheaper, but most of them I've seen have been pretty beat up. I have several Mosins and have never had trouble finding ammo. And the ammo is pretty cheap. The Armory in VB was recently selling it for $69 for a 440-round can. I think they're all sold out now, though.

Everyone is sold out of everything! I am hoping to find some 9mm next week when we get paid.

The mosin I will likely get next month. Just doing my preliminary research.

MBC, I suggest you check out the gun show in Norfolk at the end of this month. There are usually plenty of Mosins for sale there. I haven't seen any that were great deals, but the prices usually aren't outrageous, either. (Got a fantastic deal on a 1917 Mauser at the Hampton show, though! You just need to know what you're shopping for and what it's worth.)

ya, all the mosins I can find have gone up to the $300 dollar mark.

I'd rather spend the $300 on a mauser.

I've got a few mosins, and like it, but for the same money I think the mauser is simply a beter gun.

Sportsmans Guide usually has ammo for them and has free shipping offers on a regular basis.

Sportsman's Guide, Wal-mart, Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods are meeting with Biden on gun sales...

I feel a "compromise" for them may occur... Just like the AARP's Insurance for Obamacare....

(spits) Selling out their customers like the French sold out the Jews to the Nazi's.

One other important item is make sure the serial numbers match. The number should be on the bolt and the receiver.

Try to get a crate, too. I have one as a coffee table in my 'man room' that holds gun cleaning stuff, oil, guitar parts, songbooks, tools, etc. I picked it up for $20 when I lived up in WA. Best $20 I ever spent!
