Wittman to hold town hall at Germanna CC - gun free zone ??

Representative Wittman is holding a "town hall" meeting on Sept 1 at Germanna Community College, Fredericksburg Campus:

I went to the GCC website to look up their policies, they do have a "firearms possession" link, but the link is broken.

Anyone know what Germanna's policy on firearms is?

Update: I wrote to the contact address listed at http://www.germanna.edu/policies/ and got a bad email address notice.

Update 2: Found another email address posted for security. That one hasn't bounced back yet. Found the student handbook online, no mention of firearms policy.

Doesn't Germanna fall under "government" and is pre-empted because of that? If so I think they can makes rules for employees and students but for the rest of us they can't really deny us the right to carry.

Anyone else think different or have different info?

Here is their actual policy:

Possession or use of firearms, explosives, or any other
dangerous or deadly weapons are not appropriate to the
college experience. Therefore students, employees, and
patrons are not permitted to possess these items on
College property except when carried by bona fide law
enforcement officials in their official capacities. This policy
applies whether the weapon is functional or not. Any device
designed to look like a weapon and/or is used by an individual
to cause reasonable apprehension or harm is considered a
weapon by this policy. Exceptions may be granted when
approved in advance in writing by the Campus Security
Manager and the President.
Employees agree to this policy and all other policies by
accepting continuing employment. Students and patrons
agree to this and all other policies by their continuing
enrollment and participation in activities and events.

And I always thought Wittman was one of the good guys. Guess I'll write and ask him why he's having his meeting at a victim disarmament zone. -1 in my feelings about him.

And here is the AG opinion that VA public colleges may not impose a general restriction.

"It is my opinion that the governing boards of Virginia’s public colleges and universities may not impose a general prohibition on the carrying of concealed weapons by permitted individuals. Pursuant to specific grants of statutory authority, however, it is my opinion that colleges and universities may regulate the conduct of students and employees to prohibit them from carrying concealed weapons on campus."

Does not address open carry in this opinion though. Seems that Germanna may be a bit out of line with their policy.

And finally, what I believe indicates that Gremanna is pre-empted:

"The College is governed by policies set by the State Board for Community Colleges with support and advice from the Germanna Community College Board. Primary funding for the College is provided by the State, supplemented by contributions from seven counties and one city and by student tuition."

Rob Wittman has changed the location of his town hall meeting to UMW, Dodd Auditorium.

So far I've only found references in the student handbook prohibiting students from processing weapons. Reading the link provided by Moccasin, it would seem CCW is permitted.
