So...what if this new ban gets passed?

Post by clayinva »

This may be premature, but has anyone decided what they'll do about their "assault weapons" if Feinstein's atrocity gets passed as written? I don't own any long guns that would qualify, but obviously a huge majority of semiautomatic handguns in 9 mm, .40 S&W, and other common calibers are built to accomodate more than 10 rounds of ammo.

Given the Republicans' tendency to cave and the emotional impact of all the bogus arguments that will be made regarding "the killing of children",I don't think passage is outside the realm of possibility. And after the results of the latest election, I have zero confidence in the common sense of the American people to rise up in protest at violating the Constitution.

Given the requirement in the proposed bill to register 'grandfathered' weapons, I would rather have only revolvers and shotguns than have ANYTHING registered with BATFE or whaever bunch of jackbooted thugs would enforce such a law.

If the bill actually passes the NRA and GOA will have their lawyers filing injunctions to keep it from the president's pen. If we can get the case before the SCOA before the two oldest members retire, we have a chance of getting it stricken. IF it passes.

Just to clarify, NRA and GOA and SAF can't file for injunctions until any law is signed...

Should this affront against the Constitution and our innate rights pass, those would be interesting days for all of us I expect.

I guess open carry demonstrations at Gravelly Point Park would not be a good idea in any case... I guess.

Just looked at the Feinstein-proposed AWB... I don't think this has a snowball's chance in hell of passing. Many Democrats will vote the party line on this, but I think you'll see resistance from Harry Reid and other democrats who generally support the 2nd Amendment. *IF* it passed the Senate, it would get chewed up in the House. I'll worry if/when it leaves the Senate. Nothing in this bill would have prevented the Newtown CT shooting.

Omigosh! There was a horrible boating accident, I was showing a friend my gun collection on his boat when a giant freak wave crashed over the side and washed every one of them overboard! Oh nooooo!!!

If it does not happen this time, they will wait 2 more years, and in between there will be couple more questionable shootings, republicans will loose majority, and another 20 millions will be welfare dependents.
Looking at news, I'd say 40-45% chances to pass on the ban this time. But I'm by no means an expert on American politics...

Thanks all. Have seen variations in numerous places of "my guns got lost in a fire / boating accident / earthquake / tsunami". BUT, by taking that path (which if anyone here says it, I totaly believe what you say), they can never be seen in a public place unless it is only by close friends / family who you know you can trust with no hesitation. (As in "Look! It's a miracle! I thought my Glocks were lost forever! And here they are in my range bag!")

No public ranges, no carry. Is that really a good option?

In all seriousness, I hear ya. If you use them in defense, you will have to say hi to the family from behind bars - and they thought prisons were overcrowded now!
If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6?

Thankfully I don't think this will pass. Many democrats won't vote for it because they know they will lose a lot of their vote.

If a ban like this did pass... unfortunately I think I'd do what 99% of all affected would do: Comply.

Life will go on with or without a ban. And I have to continue making a living.

Nothing in this proposed ban would have stopped any of these shootings. The only thing that might have limited the carnage in Newtown would have been 30 round magazines being outlawed but if he shot 10 with the AR and then used the handguns the outcome wouldn't be different.
Like most negotiations you ask the world and there is some point where the end in the middle. The scary thing is with this administration and the media that is at his disposal they might get more than we think.

It's up to us to reach out to our elected officials and explain to them why this solves nothing and without any serious conversations around mental health this is just cosmetic feel good leglistation.

As a caveat here,,Never underestimate the stupidity of politicians.. They shoved Obamcare through didn;t they? Would be wise for us to pay very close attention and make sure we get our message across..No compromises, No bans, Nothing to further restrict gun ownership or use is acceptable. The antis are looking to raise Holy Hell and it is in our best interest to raise it right back and even louder,,,,
