This is a real nitpick, but I'm going to make it anyway.
I think unsafe guns exist. Those made so cheaply or poorly that they can discharge when dropped; those that have been incorrectly modified so that they double, triple or go full auto unexpectedly; a pistol with a firing pin stuck in the forward position that slam fires; or guns that have had all safeties removed or bypassed are some examples.
An unsafe gun is one that may discharge unexpectedly even when it's being properly handled. They are rare today, but they do exist. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction!

But all of those things require an action by a person. The gun by itself remains safe until dropped, loaded, trigger pulled, etc....so my mantra remains solid.
