Land of the Flee: More Americans Renoucne Citizenship

Post by Kreutz »

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/com ... 29319.html
Since President Obama took office in January 2008, nearly 5,000 people have voluntarily surrendered their American passports, according to data made available by The United States Office of the Federal Register. Last year alone, nearly 1,800 US citizens went rogue, compared to about 230 four years ago.
The part about Americans being required to pay taxes earned overseas are true, only the US and the Phillipines do this.

So, if you split, make sure your new home will not extradite!

I'd consider splitting, but I can't think of anywhere to go that would be an improvement enough to justify the hassle of the move.

Renunciation figures shot up shortly after the UBS scandal of 2008, when the Swiss bank was caught helping thousands of Americans evade taxes, a revelation that led to tighter restrictions on overseas bank accounts.

To get your country back, you have to make it so bad, that even the liberals won't like it.

If only we had a country that believed in letting people succeed, or fail, on their own, without holding their hands.

Blame the communist supported "student agitators" and "civil rights protesters" and their media compatriots.

Not so much the actual hippes who generally wanted to be left alone on their communes or "drop out" as they called it.

There was a time when I would have felt contempt for someone who renounced their US citizenship for any reason.

Now, though, I find I do not blame them.

Sadly, we no longer have a country that deserves our unconditional loyalty or respect by virtue of the fact that its government treats its productive citizens as slaves and the non-productive ones as being entitled to share equally with the government-bureaucrat masters in the fruits of the slaves' labor.

The bastards have stolen my country from me.

What I find frustrating, is that when I was growing up, there were freedoms that I witnessed, enjoyed by adults. I was really looking forward to them. That, and I hear, from my elders, about other little freedoms that used to exist. I don't get to enjoy these things. It's really tempting to whine about a lack of fairness, but I know that life ain't fair, anyway.

And, there are some things that I used to enjoy, that I can no longer enjoy. I gained a few nieces and nephews and 2nd cousins this year; I have to wonder what horrors will await them when they reach adulthood. Sad, very sad, indeed.

The country hasn't just been stolen from you, it's been stolen from us all. (or, in some cases, unrightfully given away!!)

By all means, any who share my perception of what our country used to be and therefore my sense of loss, are welcome to also share my misery that it is gone. I certainly didn't mean to hog it all up.

I can't imagine real Americans running away.

I can't imagine smart folks thinking its better somewhere else.

I can't imagine any good reason to let them back in the country if they do run off.

Less for you. Fewer people that like firearms means more legislation to get rid of them and no one to push back.
