The Dems needed to get something on TV with the word "God" in it after the voice vote debacle on putting God back in the platform.

I can't say as I blame them. It makes me ill, too.

To what country would you prefer to pledge your allegance?

Ill stir the pot a little.

Why should I pledge allegiance to a country that has enslaved my children to debt through the federal reserve system?
A country that has willfully violated the right to life of over 50 MILLION children.
A country that has through force stripped God out of our public functions, such as OUR public schools.
A country that continues to send our kids to die on foreign lands for foreign causes.
A country that makes me a criminal for defending my family, and takes away my ability to do so.

A better question would be, what has this country done to show allegiance to US!
False patriotism indeed.

Correction.

A little history lesson, PoA is socialism at its finest.

Red had it right! :clapping:

I don't care what nare do wells say.

I'm surprised with some of the opinions expressed here some don't avail themselves of the freedom to leave. Talk about your false patriotism... Why would anyone stay in a place they dispise?

I guess complaining is better than actually doing something.

That's an amazing leap of logic. Not liking the PoA because it was created by last centuries socialists for narfarious reasons does not equate to dispising the country. Go read up on the PoA, it's not a pledge to the country at all, it's a pledge to the state. Incidentally, given your unquestioning loyalty to the state, it seems to have had it's desired affect...

Look fella. The last honor my country will bestow on me is the flag of the Country I love across my casket before it's lowered in the ground. It will then join my Grandfathers flag, and my Fathers flag after my wife gives it to my Son.

You and your ilk can take a flying leap!

So let me see if I understand Red correctly...

I'm to dedicate myself and my worldly goods, my love and devotion to a flag which stands for the Republic, which in general is a form of government and in this capitalized case is the specific government which governs these lands? Translation, give yourself to the state.

Furthermore, this Republic is indivisible depsite the fact that such a concept violates a central premise of Republicanism? I.e. how is it that the Republic, aka the state, can not be altered in such a way as to divide it when ultimate sovereignty is with the people who created the state in the first place? By definition saying that the "Republic" is indivisible literally means the "Republic" is sovereign, not the people...if the people were truely sovereign and not the "Republic" they would still have the power to divide it as they see fit, but according to the PoA the people do not have such power...which also means this specific indivisible state can never be a republic again.

Now, Fish, before you go getting upset, consider the positions of the naysayers.

The Pledge was, in fact, written by a self avowed Socialist. Granted, the brand of Socialism endorsed by Bellamy is more voluntary than that of Marx, but it's still Socialism. It was written as a sales pitch to sell flags. (On a side note, I find it odd that a Bellamy, a Baptist minister, writes this glowing tribute, yet makes no mention of the God that he has pledged to serve)

Further, the Pledge puts all emphasis on the Federal, with no regard to the sovereignty of the individual States. When Lincolns arrogant war of Federal Aggression concluded in 1865, the notion of State Sovereignty was largely laid to rest, anyway; but, the introduction of the Pledge into schools, less than three decades later, made certain that it stayed that way.

I, myself, am not a big fan of the Pledge. I am, however, a patriot. When the Pledge is recited, I respectfully take off my hat, place my hand over my heart, and sincerely recite along, to affirm and symbolize that I am a United States citizen, and when push comes to shove, I give my allegiance to the United States of America, before any other nation on this planet.

That said, I am a Christian first, and a family man second, then I am a U.S. citizen. My love for this Nation exists because this is still the best Nation to live in while I worship my God and serve my family.

Really, though, if we are going to make a pledge to an object that symbolizes our country, the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence are much better candidates.

Exactly...I would suggest he left it out because his real god was the state first and the Christian God second and thus technically not at all. Christian socialism was and is more about the state, but simply softening the edges with Christian sounding ideas and goals.

Or better yet, why not a pledge to the concepts in those documents? Liberty? Freedom? Justice? God granted Inalienable Rights? The Founders knew any form of government will never be perfect since it's going to be run by imperfect people...it's not patriotism following the state blindly.

Yes, anger has clouded his reading comprehension. The comment was clearly in reference to SHMIV's side note about why a "Christian Socialist" would leave God out of the PoA.
