.327 Federal Magnum - sticking around?

Noticed lots of sales on .327-based revolvers lately,both online and at the gun shows. Fire sale or higher availability to push the caliber?

Good question. Would not mind having an SP101 in 327 Mag. But it seems like an answer to a question no one asked.

I'm sure that before we knew about the wheel, nobody was asking about it either. The fact is that once I got my first 327 Federal Magnum revolver (Taurus), I spent a lot more and bought an S&W. I now reload, and thing it's an awesome caliber. Less recoil than a .357, but more knockdown than 9 mm or .38 +P rounds. It expands to around a half inch.

I think it's a great caliber, and the only reason it's not being asked for is the lack of understanding of its power and lower recoil than rounds it out-performs.

Shot one at the last shoot and greet and liked it. I think I would trade it for a .38 for the extra round. Pretty sweet round!

My guess is distributers getting rid of stock.

First revolvers are not exactly a hot seller vs auto loaders.

Second, and most importantly any new chambering needs to do something the existing chambering don't do well, or at least the marketing has to convince buyers that it does something better.

From what I've seen/heard at the local shops, no one has been asking for 327's, or ammo for them. Granted my sample size is low, but I don't see much chatter on forums about how wonderful the 327 is, or how many people are buying.

It seems people that own .327-based revolvers love the caliber an want a lever action in it. Everyone else asks, "Why?"

Demand has been low for .327 Magnum, from everything I've seen. Almost no one asks for the ammo and even fewer ask for the revolvers at our shop. I believe most manufacturers except Ruger have stopped making guns in .327 Federal Magnum all together. In fact the .327 Rugers were/are the only Rugers widely available during this whole "Ruger not taking new orders" event earlier this year.

We're not seeing hardly any demand for it, either. Most of what we see in the semi-auto world is 9, 40, and .45. In the revolver world, it's .38/357, the .44's, or .45 Colt (Taurus Judges and Colt SAA clones, chiefly). Personally, I wouldn't buy one, either. There's a lot of merit in getting a firearm for which you can go virtually anywhere in the country and there'll be ammo for it.
