I think that the government may believe they can't "ban" guns ( not for lack of trying though) so instead they are trying to convince as many citizens as possible not to exercise their 2nd amendment rights.
Every person who is tricked into not owning and training with a gun/s is another person fully disarmed.
Even current gun owners that get convinced not to own an ar 15 or extra ammo or hi cap mags due to the government selling the idea that those only belong on some "distant" battlefield" are falling for the propaganda.
I read a comment from a military man too who seemed to not understand it right either. He said something to the effect of as a military soldier, his rifles had to be accounted for and locked up so why would non military civilians want and need access to their own weapons 24-7.
He had fallen for the same government trickery that they are trying to do with everybody else.
The founding fathers realized that:
standing armies in peace time at home = bad idea and trouble just waiting to happen.
BUT
armed & trained citizens that can pause their regular activities and pick-up their weapons at anytime and be ready to defend at a moment's notice = reason for 2nd amendment
That's what made America great and different than other countries as the people did not rely on the government for that stuff.
Obama is already getting as many people to depend on the gov for food and housing and everything (welfare) next he wants everyone to give up their guns and fully depend on (be controlled by) the government for "protection" too.
How long will it be before you can't even drive to a 7-11 without going through a "checkpoint" showing your “papers” and getting searched
It's like they are trying to turn USA into USSR or North Korea right under people's noses or actually tricking the people into requesting these things.
The 2nd amendment protects all the others and the people that ignore the 2nd amendment don't even realize that their precious twitter facebook internet cat pictures whatever are all exercising (free speech) 1st amendment rights that only still exist because of the 2nd amendment keeping em all in check.
Everybody seems to love the 1st, 4th and 6th amendment which that recent bill passed is tearing up the 6th amendment (lock anybody up indefinitely for no real reason, and with no trial.. people are sleeping on it).. If the 2nd amendment goes, the the 4th will go in order to enforce a gun ban, then when complaining starts, the 1st amendment will go to shut people up
How do you make people see that connection? It is so clear to me what is happening right now in front of us.

One advantage civilians have over the military is marksmanship. While I was in the Marines we were allowed to go to the range once a year. The training was good but not as frequent as it should be.

People that condemn those of us that exercise our 2nd amendment rights are people that have never picked up a gun in their lives. The simplest way to convince them that a gun, left to its own devices, will never harm anybody. If you can get that person to the range and let them squeeze off a few rounds down range, even with a 22lr, I think they will change their minds quickly. I have seen it happen. As long as people remain convinced that guns are dangerous and need to be avoided they won't understand the joy of chopping up a paper target with a 16 gauge pump action. Get them to hold a gun. It ain't the boogey man.

The military man overlooked the fact that it ISN'T HIS GUN. If it is your property, you can put all the strings on it you want to. If it is my property, it is nobody's business but mine.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Bet a lot of soldiers on Ft. Hood wished their arms were not locked up.

I just think that government's goal is to disarm the citizens so that only government sanctioned groups (police/military) will be armed to enforce whatever later agenda they propose. The easiest way to trick the public into giving up their 2nd amendments rights is out of fear under the guise of "safety". By using murders where guns were used as the tool, and blaming the tool, they will convince a lot of people to willingly refuse to exercise their own 2nd amendment rights while at the same time, requesting that the government go after the rights of others just to be on the "safe" side. They don't need an actual gun ban yet they just need people to propose self gun bans from misinformation. Once enough people have willingly chosen not to own guns at all while others to go from owning a mini arsenal to only own a simple single shot "duck hunting" gun (remember that bill that just passed where they can arrest and lock up anybody indefinitely multiple gun owners would be on the list), then they can proceed with their "gun ban" altogether Once a gun ban happens then they will want/need to do checkpoints and searches and seizures everywhere to check for those newly banned guns. chain reaction ... The 2nd amendment going then leads to the 4th going , then the people that had been tricked into supporting the gun ban start realizing that it sucks to get searched for guns everywhere you go so they change their mind and start protesting and complaining, on the internet facebook twitter picket signs wherever, well, the gov will want to shut all that noise up so there goes the 1st amendment.
So if the 2nd amendment goes down, they all do soon after.
If they can accomplish that goal, then they can take away any other rights without meaningful opposition.
Even people that currently don't even 'like guns , if they love internet postings and text messaging they should go buy a gun and tell everybody else to as well because if gun right go, everything else will follow.

But it didn't work... after all the polls are said, and done... OUR side won... ALL of them! Sometimes in a 2-to-1 margin!
And THAT scares the GUV'MINT!
