Opinion: Why I own an assault rifle

Post by OakRidgeStars »

From FOX News
By Frank M. Taylor

I moved to Colorado about ten months ago. And though I am a native Texan, Colorado is my adoptive state. In my 31 years, 18 were in Texas and 12 were in Illinois, so that should tell you something. I love this state and the people in it. Just as the people of Texas are my people, the people of Colorado are my adoptive people.

Recently, my Colorado people have suffered through forest fires. And now they’ve suffered through an horrific tragedy. My upbringing has been between one of the most conservative states in the union and one of the most liberal, as far as gun laws go. So I have a lot of friends on both sides of the gun issue that want to share their thoughts. And you know what? You can shut up about gun control for a day or two.

You can shut up about gun regulations and gun bans

I own an assault rifle, two handguns and a shotgun. And, of course, I purchased them all legally. I have a college degree and I don’t have any criminal history beyond speeding tickets. If you’re looking at a background check, I’m no different than James Eagan Holmes. Compare resumes and you’ll pick him; he had a better GPA than I did and actually pursued a higher education than I have.

I like how Fox News put a more controversial title on the blog post (probably to drive more traffic to the website). Now that's a news source you can trust!

I found this "blog" to be without a point.... Well, an obvious one.... This was a blog right? Lol
I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

And that's why ModAU isn't a journalist, because he can sum things up with six words...

WHY I OWN AN ASSAULT RIFLE?

I HAVE ONE BECAUSE I CAN! :clap:

I own an AR-15. It does not have the full auto selector so I don't own an assault rifle.

You are using the traditional DoD definition.
Unfortunately, the legal definition (from the 1994 law) is:
(b) DEFINITION OF SEMIAUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPON- Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:

`(30) The term `semiautomatic assault weapon' means--

`(A) any of the firearms, or copies or duplicates of the firearms in any caliber, known as--

`(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models);

`(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;

`(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);

`(iv) Colt AR-15;

`(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;

`(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;

`(vii) Steyr AUG;

`(viii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and

`(ix) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12;

`(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

`(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

`(iii) a bayonet mount;

`(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and

`(v) a grenade launcher;

`(C) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

`(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

`(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

`(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;

`(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and

`(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm; and

`(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of--

`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

`(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

`(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and

`(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.'.

The “modern” govt tends to change the law to better fit it's wants.

Because the 2nd amendment gives me the right to own the same "assault rifle" that a tyrannical government would send their people armed with if they came to attack me.

If they were still only packin single shot muzzle loaders as standard, then hey, so would we all

I wish it were so, however it is all too easy for the Guvmint to take our toys. Friend of mine had Po-po's with a search warrant show up 2AM. Busted down the door, siezed all his stuff, and at the arraigment, turns out they had wrong residence. "Sorry about your front door, you'll need to fix that, and while your at it, put in a request to return your weapons." Been 6mos, he still hasn't gotten his guns back... :confused:
I don't WANT to yell at the TV, but the mainstream Liberal Media MAKES ME !!!

That's when you get some REALLY good 2ND attorneys to unleash hell, and change some policies at the Po-po station!

Have him check the VCDL website for decent lawyers.
