I own guns for personal protection because I'm not a Ninja
I own guns for personal protection because I'm not a Ninja
So often, people assume that guns for personal protection are solely meant to protect against an attacker with a gun, but really an attacker may have a knife, a hammer a screwdriver or just bare hands and still can pose a lethal threat. Since I'm not a Ninja or mma fighter or anything near it, my guns are meant to level that playin field and provide me better chance of detering or surviving an attack and protecting my home and family.
That is what the anti gun people just don't seem to understand and what happened in colorado is sad yet does not change my need or reason for owning guns.

Your attacker may not even be human. It may be a dog, a venomous serpent, or even a particularly violent goose. Fact is, guns are practical tools. It's foolish to not own at least one.

I carry because my fists cannot stop bullets.
I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

Those geese can be pretty formidable foes. Don't underestimate them.

I carry BECAUSE of Columbine, Ft. Hood, Aurora and, especially, VA Tech.
My head is on a swivel, I am armed and I can reload. I will protect those around me.

Keep in mind... just owning a weapon doesn't do the trick. You have to maintain some vigilance of being in shape to the level you can obtain. You have to train with your weapon, and it's REAL affects, not the "imaginary" ones you read about...
Owning a weapon is fine, but there are other aspects to just owning one.

I carry because I care more about my family (wife & daughter) than I do anything else. It's my job to make sure they are safe and no one else is capable of doing my job. I'm not the Superman that I once was in the military. I'm not invincible, I am not confrontational and I am not arrogant enough anymore to think that I can stop a person with an agenda to hurt or kill with my big shoulders and a puffed up chest.

Exactly Wolvee!
After carrying for the past few years, the one thing that becomes heir apparent... You cannot stop nutjobs, you have to be in shape to control the weapon, and you have to be observant!
People walk around now with their iPods, Cellphones, and pads, and never see ANYTHING!! ANYTHING!!!! Around them!
Terrifying that we're surrounded about by "sheeple".

I hear if you cook sheeple with soy sauce and just a dash of ginger, it tastes like chicken with soy sauce and ginger. I love me some oriental sheeple! Seriously though, I carry to deter as much as I carry to obliterate should the necessity arise. And for god's sake take the gun to the range every now and again and shoot live rounds downrange.

AMEN! Range time is necessary to keep the skills.
Re: I own guns for personal protection because I'm not a Ninja
What I mean is people that want to ban guns act like if guns were banned that everybody would be safe from the bad guys or whatever but it does not matter to me if I'm attacked by someone with a gun , knife, baseball bat, a hammer or deadly fists. If my life is in danger my guns will help me protect myself .
Iny my opinion, an attacker is not "unarmed" just because they are not holding a gun or knife or whatever. As long as an attacker physically has "arms" and is trying to kill me with them then I need to defend myself and like I said, I'm not a Ninja, so guns are the equalizer to the situation.

I'm not trying to "equalize"; I'd like to keep the advantage on my side, whenever possible.BHG1978 wrote:
