Where the heck can I shoot?...Rant inside!
Here I am in the cradle of freedom, in a so called free state(ok commonwealth) on Independence day wishing I had a place to exercise my 2nd amendment rights......Yes I can carry open, but there are NO places to shoot except that A) you have to be a member B) pay a kings ransom to shoot C) shoot through some stupid tube D) buy inflated priced ammo.................REALLY? Rant concluded......But I still want to shoot aaarrrgggghhhhhh!!!

We continue to be exasperated by the view, apparently gaining momentum in certain circles, that armed robbery is okay as long as nobody gets hurt! The proper solution to armed robbery is a dead robber, on the scene.

Yeah, what he said. I usually go to my sisters house, but it's an hour drive.steelheart wrote:go make friends with a fellow firearms enthusiast that owns private land is the only thing i can tell you. i did and now myself and a very few others are working on the range area. thinking of putting in a picnic area too.
A friend of mine has a couple of neighbors who didn't want a house built on the property in between them, so they formed a small company together, and bought the property under the business name. The sole function of that company is to own that fraction of an acre. The point is, gather some friends and buy some property where you are able to shoot. I realize that this is easier said than done, but if your finances allow for it, it is an option.

There are lots of large lots for sale around the state. How did the gun clubs start? A bunch of guys got together, formed a company to buy a large piece of appropriate land, and built the facilities. I recognize that with higher land prices today it would take more wealthy founding members or a larger number of them to pull it off, but it is certainly possible, and it is the American way.

No, the American way is pretty much dead. That is why it literally takes an act of congress and state houses to protect what few shooting areas exist. That is also why mouthbreathers nationwide are so ignorant about firearms, hate their use for any reason, and act to punish, tax and abolish anything having to do with them, like ranges particularly.

In regards to ammo prices, start reloading ASAP before that is also illegal.

Actually? That idea about forming an equal partnership corporation to buy large tracts of land (Not referencing TM's catchphrase), and set it up for a camp to hunt, fish, and shoot... is NOT a shabby idea!
You get 10-20 people, each put in $10k-$20K... you have a sizable tract in certain areas...
Everyone works it evenly, every one contributes... Like a commune... except with guns... and legal paperwork...and everyone has jobs... and they're not stinky hippies.

You could do it with less people AND less money.Reverenddel wrote:

For example:
http://www.landwatch.com/Lunenburg-Coun ... /200159064
5 acres for $19,000. Granted, it's in Lunenburg county, but I found this in less than 3 minutes.
Myself, I'm looking at a 6 acre lot, complete with a house, for $25,000. I'm also wanting to buy the neighboring property, same size, also with a house. Total comes up to $60,000 for two 2 bedroom houses on 12 acres in the middle of nowhere. I'll have a place to park a couple of Peterbilts, and I can target practice without getting out of bed. No HOA to complain about the cars on blocks that I will lovingly place in my front yard, either... though, the Lady may object...

Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club host an IDPA match the second saturday of every month. You don't have to be a member of RRRC,just show up and pay the entry fee, usually 15.00 and have fun. Red six Tactical in Forest VA host an IDPA club match on the first Saturday of every month. Same thing entry fee,and shoot. After a couple of matches you will have to join the IDPA 40.00 a year. The also have 3 gun shoots on one weekend a month.

I purchased 60 acres and a house in Appomattox county a little over a year ago. The comute from Northen VA is a pain but it is so nice to get up on a saurday or sunday morning and open door take tem steps and start shooting. The second house payment and money spend maintaning property does limit the number of guns i have purchased in last year. My only regret is that i did not hold out for a bigger property.
