Looking for pre-ban Ruger Mini-14 magazines
Looking for pre-ban Ruger Mini-14 magazines
My poor brother lives in the wasteland of gun rights that is known as NY. He has a mini-14 but he can only have high capacity magazines if they were made before the assault rifle ban. Needless to say in nY such things are nearly mythical and ridiculously priced. I am wonderiNG if anyone on the forums has access to some of the older magazines?

Re: Looking for pre-ban Ruger Mini-14 magazines
Here's the question. How do they prove it? I have two 30-round mags for my Mini-14, not made by Ruger. There is no date on them, or serial number. I'm not advocating breaking the law, no matter how ridiculous it is, but are they going to do a metallurgical test on them?

well most reputable magazines either have an internal or external date stamp. it used to be that post 1994 all magazines were made with the stamp for MI/LE use only and a date stamp if they were high capacity so you used to know if your magazine didn't say that you were fine. Unfortunately for NYers when the federal ban expired, some manufacturers stopped stamping that. My understanding is at the time of the arrest it is on you to prove that the magazine is in preban. Once you get to court, sure the burden is now on them, but you've already been arrested, had your firearms confisticated, and had to hire a lawyer, so most people try to find the clearly date stamped ones to be safe.
