What was your "find" at the Chantilly show?

Post by gregj »

We got there kind of late sunday afternoon, but I found a used Sig P226 (non-rail) 9mm with TruGlo night sights (which still glow) at the Dark Sun table. It showed a fair amount of wear on the finish, but not from holster. Internals looked good, probably around 2K rounds through it. Got it for $400, which I think is a decent deal.

My youngest son (15) found a spring assist pocket knife he really liked, and my oldest son (19) got a Shrufire light for is airsoft shotgun, numchucks, practice fighting sword, and a few other goodies. Boys, what are ya gonna do with them?

What was your "find" this weekend?

I "found" that my quest pipe under my sink let go and flooded my master bathroom overnight. Luckily I had not gone to NC for the weekend like I was supposed to.

I traded a CZ75B for a practically-new S&W 629-5, 6" half-lug barrel. The modernized, stainless version of the Dirty Harry gun, no lock (-5 was MIM parts, -6 added the lock).

All I need to do now is to swap out the MIM trigger for a forged one, and I'll be in business!

I picked up a few firearm manuals that I had been looking for and a factory mag for my Sig P245. Those were my goals. I've been looking for a Remington 510 rifle and actually found one but it was in bad shape so I passed on it.

It was nice to see the firearm prices back to a more normal level than where they were at the last show. I went Friday, so I don't know what the bulk ammo supply was like by the end of the weekend, but there were not the mad throngs of buyers like 3 months ago. Still crowds, but more manageable.

Again had a great time. We picked up 4 clips for our pistols (this includes the new one we bought). Got a Taurus Millenum 9mm fronm Dark Sun. Also picked up some speed loaders for our revolvers at a good price. Of course also got some ammo early on Saturday. Basically $16/box (50 rounds). we will do this again.

Found a LB of Winchester 231 ($18.00) and 1000 Small Pistol Primers ($30.00) from T&T Reloading.

Bought my brother 2 Factory Glock 22 Hi Cap mags, since they were on sale for $15.00 each from OBX Ammo (Merry Christmas Bro).

I agree aout the prices and supply. Guns were reasonable or at least normal NOVA gun show prices but ammo was still pretty high. Still there was plenty availiable and not much selling at the asking prices so maybe next month prices will fall further.

Ugh! QEST pipes! You know there was a class action suit against that stuff? I got my entire house re-plumbed with PVC for free about 4 years ago. Not sure if it's too late to get in or not.

Bought a Keltec Sub 2000 (glock 17 version) and a complete ar-15 lower; been looking for these for half a year. Got good deals on glock mags from OBX Ammo. Also, bought Pmags (a 20rd and a 30rd) and signed up with VCDL.

yeah the price was good, it was that or the XD subcompact for $80 more. I do find field stripping the 24/7 takes a little bit getting used to.

We went on Friday. Mostly, I got ammo. Betcha didn't see a lot of girls lugging a case of ammo around. Picked up some .38 special at Georgia Arms for 0.26 a round, and a case at another table for 0.28 a round. Not too awful. Hubby got some .223. I picked up a few more brushes, and some snap caps. I drooled over holsters (but didn't buy one). Then we went over to Hooters for wings, and to watch my 9-year-old try to not be embarrassed every time our waitress looked at him. :hysterical:

Only thing I found within my budget were a few (empty) ammo cans after buying a gun safe 2 weeks ago. Need to find a local source at a reasonable price (any leads/suggestions?) to pick up a few more for myself and a buddy.

Overall I'm sad to say I was less than impressed with the selection/prices I saw on Friday at opening compared to last year. It seems like there were fewer choices for pistols and a lot of (inflated priced) used pistols. I was window-shopping complete lowers and only found 3 booths of which 2 were a lot higher than I had expected and the other seemed to have a few flaws on the forging/casting....

I want to pick up a M4-clone at some point this year and am waiting on funding to be approved by the household CFO :hysterical:
