I carry a .45 as well. However, it seems that the author only collected the data for 10 years and published his findings.

Agreed with palladin. Be good...with what you carry.

A .45 is not conducive to concealed depending on location. A nice .380 that you shoot well, tucked away, like a security blanket you hope you don't need.

I conceal my Glock model 30 .45 IWB with no problem.

Or bring a long arm.

The other thing to watch on the data is that some calibers, .32, 44, are represented by very small total #'s of uses and the data may be skewed due to small sample size.

Interesting the 9mm, 40, and 45 (three very popular sizes) really don't vary more than a single digit percentage wise on killed or incapacitated.

I own a 9 for carry and a 45 for the car, but I really never thought there was much a difference...some of those calibers vary by only a few mm or mg in size and weight.

Bullet technology has been vastly improved since the 1980s. That said, I carry a 9mm in my pocket during the summer and IWB a 10mm when it's cold out. The 220gr FP lead I use for SD has more than enough penetration and the flat point won't get plugged full of cloth. I can take down anything under 300 lbs. They didn't include the 10mm since it would skew the results.
