SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
It's so nice and uncrowded!
What did ya wanna go and do that for?

Re: Fredericksburg Chapter IWLA Izaak Walton League of America
It's already gotten so crowded the past year that I've gone and waited over an hour before giving up and going home without shooting. IWL seems to have no limit on the number of memberships they'll take, regardless of facility capacity.
In addition, there seems to be more and more irresponsible shooters showing up. I've looked up more than once while picking up my brass to see the folks setting up to shoot next sighting their pistols downrange. I've also had people question me on why I waste time picking up my brass, despite it being a range rule. And theb there's the assholes shooting at lightbulbs.
I've only been a member for three years and I see how it's going downhill. I can't imagine how the old timers feel.

Members are asked to report such behaviors.
I for one have always been invited to shoot even if someone was already present on the range. I have been a member for 2 years and as of yet have witnessed no unsafe activities or unfriendly members. During the week the ranges are generally empty. Sometimes the whole facility is empty except for me.
Weekends can be different but I generally bring one or two hand guns or a 22 so that I'm not limited to the 100 yard rifle range and have always been able to shoot my fill. Generally able to use the 100 yard range before I leave.
I'm sorry your experience has not been the same. Send an email to the chapter president. Greg is very active in keeping the chapter a good place to be.

I know Arlington-Fairfax has a member limit, though they can have long waits too. It depends on the weather and time of year as well.

I joined Fred. because it's closer and they allow guests.
Arl. does not.
Never had a problem with a wait except just before hunting season when everyones sighting in on the long range.

There have been a lot of improvements over the last year. Remember, the IWLA is a member supported organization, so if you aren't part of the solution.... If you see something you don't like, or want improved, just get involved.
