The Daily Caller noted that in President Obama’s best-selling memoir, “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance,” the president recalls being fed dog meat as a young boy in Indonesia with his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy),” the president wrote. “Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

Been traveling since Monday morning. Drove to New Bern, NC for meetings, then back to Raleigh to see daughter on my way back home. 875 miles, give or take. Got in bed at 3:00 or so this morning. Haven't read a paper or seen any news in 3 days. Didn't really miss that. Romney hauled a dog in a box on top of his car? That really any different from hauling one in a dog box in the back of a pickup? Heck, when I was a boy, people regularly hauled their KIDS in the back of pickup trucks. Is there some part of the story I missed?

Now, the Obama-eating-dogs thing: Yeah, it's sickening to people in our culture. But what about the snake he ate? That was damn near cannibalism!

EEEEWWWW!!!!

But apparently my grandfather ate dog while in the South Pacific during WW2. He delighted in grossing his grandchildren out by the story. :hysterical: Miss that man.

The Daily Caller noted that in President Obama’s best-selling memoir, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, the president recalls [that] as a young boy in Indonesia with his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro. . . . “away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat.”
Perhaps he and Lolo visited this fine Indonesian roadside restaurant for an order of its specialty, Anjing Panggang.

Image

Anjing Panggang. Serves 12

Ingredients:
Meat - Small or Medium-sized dog
Marinade - 1 cup vinegar, 3 tbsp salt, 6 cloves crushed garlic, 20 spicy peppers, 3 puréed tomatoes, and 3 cups lemon juice

Procedure:
1) Kill the dog.
2) To verify if the dog is dead, cut the tendon between two pads of a paw and check for a response.
3) Burn off the fur over hot charcoal.
4) Carefully remove the skin while still warm and set aside for later. (It may be used in other recipes.)
5) Remove the entrails and cut dog up into sections, about 12 to 16 large pieces.
6) Mix all the marinade ingredients together.
7) Put dog pieces into this marinade in a large container, then let it sit for at least 2 hours.
8) Put dog pieces on a charcoal grill, cover and let it burn over warm coals.
9) Flip and baste occasionally for about 1 hour or until meat is tender.

Ain't the internets grand.

Not only that but the man apparetly lied about that!

In my personal experience in Asia I've had occasion to eat dog. It was rather tough. However, snake, rattlesnake in particular is rather mild and tender, like frogs legs. Not at all tough and can be real tastey!

B HO can't even keep his lies honest.

Unless of course he ate it raw, which would bring up a whole nother set of issues.

Ya'll hear the story about the 2 Indonesians who came to America and after a few weeks lost in an unfamiliar culture, went out in search of some dog meat? Lo and behold, they soon saw a sign that said HOT DOGS. Eager for a “taste of home”, they went to the counter and ordered. Expecting a crispy haunch of terrier or marinated barbecued rottweiler ribs, they were both surprised to see a little oblong bun with something tucked out of sight inside it. Obviously, these Americans had a different notion about how to go about eating a dog. One of them parted the bun with his fingers to reveal the weiner, whereupon he swallowed 2 or 3 times and asked his buddy, “uuuhh….what part did you get?”.

I had 2 Brittanys that were my grouse-hunting buddies and nothing less than full-fledged family members. They lived in an elaborately built, highly insulated dog house (designed and built to placate SWMBO) that stayed toasty-warm in all weather and could be ventilated in summertime. If it was above 15 degrees or so, they stayed outside by choice. They rode in a dog box mounted on a trailer to go hunting. They got carsick every time they rode. But they would still run over you to get in the trailer if you stood in the way when you opened the kennel and gave the command to "LOAD UP!". Furthermore, after I took my dressing-down from SWMBO on each such occasion for hauling "those poor dogs" on that trailer out in the cold, Those two sweethearts would, at 20 degrees, find unfrozen water if there was any to be found and wallow in it before they'd start hunting. Dogs (or at least dogs like Brittany Spaniels and Irish Setters) are outside animals. They are not people. They not only don't need an environment where humans are comfortable, they don't even want it. It is not inhumane to haul them in a dog crate on the outside of a vehicle - unless you do them the disservice of depriving them of the freedom of movement they are meant to have by keeping them in a house and acclimating them to an inside environment. Now THAT's cruel to a dog - - - at least an outside dog.

All this shock and horror (whether it is real but a product of woeful ignorance about dogs or just a convenient way to criticize a political enemy with what is known to be deceitful) expressed by this silly-assed columnist and other critics over Seamus' cruel fate at the hands of Mitt Romney is the most ignorant load of horsehockey I've ever seen proffered with a straight face.

And KaosDad, you may feel free to post THAT on the WAPO. Just attribute it to a country boy who knows more about politics than the columnist knows about dogs.

This just out...

Michelle Obama is urging Mcdonalds to offer a hamburger made with dog meat. Because the meat is much leaner than beef, she claims it would cut childhood obesity by 20%.

Mcdonalds picked up on the idea and is naming the new burger in honor of her insight.

In a press release Mcdonalds marketing department jumped on the band wagon saying; "yep next week just hit the drive-through and order a "Bo Burger" in Michelles honor".
