Finish on 10/22 aluminum receiver

Post by Mindflayer »

While cleaning off the receiver tonight, I was a bit overzealous and managed to peel off some of the matte finish on the receiver. There's now a nice shiny patch on the metal. Does anyone know what they use as the finish? I sent off an email to Ruger but figured someone here might know.

Do you mean one of the silver receivers or one of the "blued" receivers?

Huh, usually people want to take the cheap finish off, not restore it.

Best I can think of is to hit with something like this.

Well is wouldn't match with the barrel but you could anodize it. So of the sexier gun finishes if you ask me.

The receiver is aluminum, if you wanted it done up nicely, I'd talk to US Anodizing out in Amissville... then no more flaking off.

They are a VERY good anodizing shop and Amissville is right here in VA. Depending on where home is, it might just be a short drive out to drop it off.

Just had'em re-do a supressor for me, and it came out AWSOME.
