Yorktown folk, in my experience, tend to be gun friendly. A few miles over, in Williamsburg (a far more liberal area), I OC on a daily basis. Most of the vocal input that I receive is positive, though I have had a couple of puzzled people ask me why I carry it.
On a side note, I have noted that the personnel in several stores have suddenly become a lot more friendly and helpful since I started to OC, and just today, a fellow shopper in Target assumed me to be an employee there since I "looked so official".
I doubt that you'll have any issue with OC in Yorktown.

I've only seen a few people OC'ing in York but I've never seen anyone react to them. Most of them don't even notice or assume they are either military or an LEO. I live in that area so it's no big deal from what I have seen.
Why wouldn't you hold up the targets for me? It's a 9mm.

I can't comment on Yorktown specifically but in VA you are not required to unload and lock your gun to OC in a car. Just don't conceal it. Everything is the same in terms of carrying it just isn't concealed. Some wish to be 100% sure it's not perceived as concealed so they put it on the seat or the dash. But no matter whether you keep it holstered openly or if you set it on the seat I would always respectfully tell the officer your carrying since he's likely gonna see it eventually.
As a SN the officer needs to be made aware of a recent law that just passed in VA that allows you to keep a loaded handgun in a "secure" compartment in your vehicle.
