Question about Taurus Judge with 3" chamber.

Post by TonyInVa »

What ammo can I shoot? I know it can shot 45 long and and 410 shot shells. But can it shoot all size hot shells up to 3"? And can it shoot regular 45s?

Thanks

I'd say if you bought a Judge with a 3" chamber, you can fire 3" shells. Or you can fire 2.75" shells. I bought a 2.75" because I figured the only significant difference a 3" shotgun shell instead of a 2.75" one in a pistol with the effective range of a .410 shotgun with a 3" barrel would be recoil. I also thought 3" .410 shell might be hard to find. I'd say the same thing would apply to any "hot" loads you may be considering (if there is such a thing for a .410).

As to what to load, the first time I cock my Judge, what comes under the hammer is a .410 ga. #4 shot. The next two are those "personal protection rounds" that are an all-metal .410 hull loaded with 3 round .45 diameter discs and 12 BBs. The last two are .45 long Colt rounds.

If by "Regular 45's" you mean .45 ACP - No - it can't shoot those, as they are rimless - as opposed to the .45 Long Colt which uses a rimmed cartridge.

I've seen a few advertisements for Smith & Wesson's Governor. It will shoot 2-1/2" .410 shot shells, .45 Colt, and .45 ACP. It uses moon clips.

I would prefer the S&W Governor. I am just making sure I get some info on the Taurus Judge with the 3" chamber, since the Governor currently does not come in a 3" chamber model.

If you go with the Raging Judge Magnum (I have the 6.5" barrel with 3" chamber version) then you can also shoot .454 Casull with the 410 and 45LC.
