32 auto ammo for a Tomcat?

Post by RugerJoe »

Just wondering if any Beretta Tomcat owners, or people familiar with them, have recommendations on quality target shooting ammo for them?
I've read online that this particular pistol is finicky about the ammunition it likes to digest but the online recommendations don't seem to be consistent. I've picked up 100 rounds of Speer Gold Dot hollow points for it just to have a small supply of defensive rounds for it, but I'm wondering what the best bet would be for less expensive reliable target shooting ammo?

+1 on the S&B.

It has good velocity for a 32 and penetrates well also (again for a 32).

You may want to reconsider the hollow points. With a 32 none really perform well.

Might also search for Prvi Partizan ammo.. Google found me some .380 back when it was impossible to find.... Hundreds of rounds later, I'm quite happy with it compared to WWB ammo... Have only shot S&B rifle ammo, so can't compare that.

I ended up trying the Partizan ammo and it has worked pretty well. Much less expensive as well so I was able to stock up a bit.

My answer to all these questions is: Speer Gold Dot, especially for .32. It's what I use in my Seecamp LWS32

He already said he got the Gold Dot for defense. His question was about target ammo, which is much cheaper to shoot.

I still recommend Walmart, my local place does have .32, though usually not much at one time.

S&B or PPU (privi partizan) would be my first choice. I would try various ball ammo until I found one my pistol and I like. Hollow points are a waste in a .32acp. Doesn't develop enough velocity or energy to be effective. Besides, heavy clothing and such will limit the penetration and that is what you are after in a self defense round. I prefer the penetrating ability of ball ammo when using this marginal self defense round. That's not to say I would want to be shot with a .32acp. Personally, I would use a .22 LR which I believe is much underrated in this capacity. Compare ballistics and you will see what I mean. Great penetration all things considered. Incidentally, I have owned a Beretta model 1935 for about 35 years which I have tested various ammo in over the years so this isn't speculation.
