VCDL Action - Oppose Sotomayor

Time is short and VCDL has decided that the Supreme Court nomination
of Judge Sonia Sotomayor would be bad news for gun owners.

Let's let them hear from us. The Supreme Court's decision on Heller
was only by a 5 to 4 margin - thus we need to have as many pro-gun
judges as we can get in the Supreme Court!

Time is indeed short. Franken was seated this week as the 60th Dem senator. They can now conceivably do as they please regardless of Republican opposition - if they all stand together. It is imperative that we petition our senators to vote no on Sotomayor and the upcoming CIFTA treaty - link below.

Dear Senator xxxxxxxx:

I urge you to carefully consider your vote on the upcoming confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. As you know, there is much controversy surrounding her nomination. As an American citizen I am very concerned about a Supreme Court justice who:

- Supports granting undocumented immigrants drivers licenses and is against the REAL ID Act (membership in La Raza).
- Suddenly resigns from an exclusive women’s only club when questioned about its mission (Belizean Grove).
- Supports the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, a pro-abortion group, who promotes abortions for minors without parental consent and is a radical group responsible for an attack on the House of Congress in 1990 that wounded 5 lawmakers.
- Makes statements like: “Court of Appeals is where policy is made” and “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life”
- Has a recent ruling concerning the promotion test in the New Haven Fire Department overturned by the very court for which she seeks confirmation.

Lastly, I am most concerned that Judge Sotomayor views our US Constitution as a “living document” not applicable to today’s society.

I urge you to vote no on the confirmation of Judge Sotomayor. I am counting on you to protect and conserve our American way of life, values, and Constitution.
