Hi guys. I am about to start my first AR build and want to make sure I understand this correctly. Pre-ban items are those that were manufactured and part of a full rifle prior to the ban date in '94. Post-ban are those that were made prior to '94, but not part of a full rifle, or, made after the date in '94.
Now, since the ban ended in '04, there are no lists of "evil features" that a new build may only have two or less of - correct?
Building an AR - Pre-Ban, Post-Ban, No-Ban?!?
Re: Building an AR - Pre-Ban, Post-Ban, No-Ban?!?
You are correct with an *. In Virginia, there are no pre/post ban issues, however if you were to build a post ban rifle here in VA and then carry it to one of the various states north of here that have their own "ban" in place, you would be in violation of their law.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Thanks grumpy - I have no plans on taking this anywhere without checking laws of the destination.

The evil features rule still applies... read up on 922r. Not a huge deal with AR's but a very big deal with say AKs.meak99 wrote:Hi guys. Okay, so don't assemble, from imported parts, a semiautomatic rifle that would otherwise be banned from importation. Got it. Like you said, doesn't really apply in my situation.

It would take some real effort to make a 922(r) noncompliant AR!jdonovan wrote:The evil features rule still applies... read up on 922r. Not a huge deal with AR's but a very big deal with say AKs.
