McDonnell unlikely to back "College Carry" bill

Post by allingeneral »

Gov. Bob McDonnell likely would not support legislation that would prevent Virginia colleges from banning concealed firearms in campus facilities, he said Tuesday.

"I think it's unlikely a bill like that would pass, and I think at this point I would probably be unlikely to sign it," McDonnell said.

Some gun-rights advocates argue that gun owners with proper permits should not be barred from having concealed handguns on college campuses.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League has staged demonstrations at Virginia Tech, Radford University and other state colleges to protest campus gun restrictions.

Hardly shocking. McDonnell is lukewarm on guns, so anything that can be painted as "extreme" is not going to fly with him. If a bunch of states already had campus carry, he'd probably be persuadable, much like with restaurant carry.
