Cleaning a SIG

Need some "old-head" wisdom here....

The SIG went into shop for some work (night-sights) the gent stated that SIG's are "wet-guns" and really love lubricant; stated that I was doing a good job keeping it clean, but needed more oil on the frame and slide. I "Will-Co" and marched on; but did notice that after OC'g all weekend (did some runs around local park, deep woods with dog in tow), that the nylon holster was a little "shiny" from the additional oil. Then on removal of SIG at end of day, that the slide was slightly dull colored. Using Hoppe's kit to clean/lub; to include Hoppe's silicone buff rag.

Am I doing anything wrong.. need to do more/less, etc....?

Sigs are wet guns and need to have a good amount of lubrication. Just remember after cleaning to work the action repeatedly and wipe the extra oil down with a silocon cloth.

Yes, Sigs like to run wet. But if you're OC your Sig, then it will get dirty a lot quicker, so you'll be at a minimum wiping it down more frequently.

Also, get a good gun grease and put a little on the frame slide rails. Rack it a few times and wipe off the excess.

My 239 and 230 run very smoothly, and there is hardly any wear visable on the slide rails.

VBshooter, ProShooter and Gregj - THANKs for the information, the videos are very informative. Will be home in a few, will get the SIG lubed up and then headed to NRA-HQ Range for some practice. Appreciate the prompt responses; just wanted to make sure that I was doing the correct maintenance schedule/tasks .

I recommend slide glide. Several places are selling it now, I think I got it from Brian Enos's website. I use the lite in Winter and #1 in Summer. Just a very little works very well. I carry a 239, and as said before, apply grease, rack several times, and wipe up residue.

I use it on all my guns now. Where do I apply it, anywhere that is shiny at all, and rails etc.

I use Miltcomm T25 grease on my Sig (Sample came with gun, liked it, bought more.) I put it on with a brush, just thick enough to leave a shine, barely any white showing. I've shot 600 rounds in a weekend and still the gun runs fine and rails still have a sheen. Carry every day and no run off. The dullness on the slide is just a result of the holster. Better a dull gun with you than a shiny one at home. A quick rub with finger removes the dullness.

+1 on SIGs being wet guns. Takes a few tries to figure out how much is too much but Qtips are your friend. More lube = more cleaning but thats a fair tradeoff IMO.

I used to put Hoppes 9 everywhere but a local SIG nut turned me on to Milcomm TW25B grease on rails/barrels/guide rods and Milcomm MC2500 everywhere else. They all function just fine either way. Best thing about grease is that it doesnt migrate around like oil does. When I only used Hoppes 9 I had to flip 'em over in the safe once a week and always keep a paper towel underneath

Anyone else use white lithium grease on their guns? That and silicone on the outside when the cleaning and oil/greasing is done?
