Not many... its never been terribly popular. We are down to just a few makers of new guns in that caliber, so I doubt popularity is going to rise much.

All that said, I'm a reasonable fan, and when you reload, the 10 is not much more than the .40S&W to load up. Just don't find much 10mm on the range floor vs anything else.

I do not have a 10 mm but understand that a lot of people really like it. Is the ammo prohibitively expensive and/or hard to find if you do not reload?

Ammo runs 0.50 - 0.75 / round, so about $25-$35 a box of 50. Premium ammo is closer to the $1/round mark. You generally won't find, cheap ammo like tula, wolf etc... so when you compare costs to other chamberings, make sure you're comparing like-quality ammo.

It might be hard to find at the local wall-mart, but most well stocked sporting goods stores will have some, and obviously the internet can supply nearly anything you need.

Unlike my 9mm I REALLY don't want to shoot 500 rounds of 10mm in a day at the range. Generally 2-4 boxes takes care of what I care to shoot.

If you go to the premium ammo, double-tap makes some VERY nice full-power loadings.
135gr @ 1600 FPS
200gr hard-cast @ 1250

You can also seek out some of the 'fbi' spec loads that are just a bit hotter than 40S&W and they are very pleasant shooting in a full size 10mm gun.

I have two, a Kimber 1911 and a S&W 610. I'm getting a barrel to convert my ParaOrdnance P16-40 to 10mm. Handloading the cartridge will bring it back to the proper power level like it was originally envisioned by Jeff Cooper.

Maybe try Georgia Arms for less-expensive bulk 10mm?

yep about .25/round for factory reloads. Most shooters, wo don't reload, that I know are a bit uneasy about 'reloads' so I didn't mention them.

They're not really reloads, they use new Starline brass to make their 10mm ammo. Their .223 ammo line reloads Lake City brass. Georgia Arms is the only company I buy new 10mm ammo from.

I know not all their ammo is reloads, but what I was saying is Ga Arms is associated with being a factory reloaded/re-manufacturer and that is a put-off to some shooters.

But I agree the 10mm from then is nice and I shoot a lot of it.

The 10mm as originally loaded was wonderful. Then the VSP ruined it! But, it did
give advent to the 10 Corto, better known as the 40 S&W.

Yes on 10 mm. G20 is EDC here for over 5 years (used to carry .40), with DTA full house loads.

Count me among the 10mm faithful. A Colt Delta Elite, S&W 610 4", and even a S&W 1076 in the mix.... Had to get one of the originals.

I shoot and reload 10MM for two Glocks and my S&W 610 and 1006. It's one of my favorite calibers. +1 for Georgia Arms. Palmetto State Armory also has decent deals on Prvi Partisan 10MM ($17/50 Bonded JHP 180GR). I personally really like Prvi Partisan ammo, so that's a decent deal to me.

If 10mm guns and SD ammo were more common I might even like it better than my current favorite the .357SIG. IMHO, both of those cartridges really show what a modern, full power SD cartridge should be. If recoil is an issue, you probably just need more training; work up to these calibers. Bullet design has come a long way and the over-penetration fears for 10mm should be unfounded today.
