Federal agents hunt for guns in Texas

From the Houston Chronicle: The BATF is making rounds in Texas looking for guns. I could not find this in any other newspapers. Big buzz though in the blogspace about it.

I've been watching this on other forums. NRA has an alert about it HERE. This is justified as an attempt to stop the smuggling of guns across the border to Mexico. The problem is that ATF is looking at 4473's in the local gun shops then going door to door to see if you still have the gun. They are not tracing from a gun found in Mexico back to the original purchaser, they are attempting to trace from the point of purchase to Mexico. I've seen reports of heavy handed tactics being used by the ATF in some cases, threatening to report you as being "uncooperative" and demanding people return from business trips to meet ATF agents.
